I took my husband who is a Cardiac patient to the emergency room. He was complaining about chest pains. One would expect a hospital with a heart centre would take that seriously.. after waiting for 30min I was asked to wait in the cubicle with my husband and "wait my turn" by the doctor in charge. Only one doctor in the ER. We walked out of the hospital and no one even noticed. I would not trust the uninterested staff with my loved ones . Let's see if they have the audacity to ask me to pay R100 admin fee.

My daughter (3) had to spend 2 nights at Ethekwini Hospital for a small (in hindsight) chest issue. The weekend staff were very friendly and helpful, although we didn't see the on call paed until day 2, she was notified about the blood results and was able to prescribe antibiotics on day 1. The facilities are great, including a play room for kids and the food was good, but not always appropriate for toddlers (spicy). Overall, a very pleasant experience.

I've rushed my son who's an infant to the ER at Ethekwini hospital twice only to receive the same lousy care from the same paeditrician!!! In 3hrs spent at the hospital my son did not receive ANY treatment and was not seen by a paeditrician. We decided to leave in the middle of the night and went to another hospital to receive better care. I WILL NOT BE GOING TO ETHEKWINI HOSPITAL AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Despite it looking like a bank on the inside, Ethekwini hospital is quite a good one. It's clean, airy, and the staff are generally friendly and competent in their relevant disciplines.

I went there in the morning on a weekday, so it wasn't as busy. But things can become disorganized on weekends and late afternoons, when most people come for consultations. It's best to avoid those times.
