This is one of my ultimate picnic spots. All you need is a blanket, some snacks and a book and you're sorted for a good couple of hours. You can find really quiet, secluded area or join the families towards the bottom by the lake. There is a cafe on site, which has simple food - try the scones! The toilets are a little shabby and taking a toilet roll with you is a good backup plan in case they're out.

By far one of my favourity botanic gardens. Clean, spacious, well-maintained. Beautiful romantic spots for a picnic with someone special and ample space for a kiddies party or family afternoon picnic. So many things to see and learn (also, for those #Ingress playersthere is a pretty mural mission and ample portals).

Visited the Garden's on a Sunday. Was fairly busy with lots of people around. From teen playing Pokimon on their phones, couples relaxing in the shade to families picnicking under the trees. Despite the number of people, a serene and peaceful atmosphere pervaded the Gardens. Everything was clean and neat with well manicured lawns, neatly trimmed vegetation and pristine pathways.
It was a beautiful day filled with beautiful memories in a beautiful garden.
Well done to those in charge of maintaining the gardens.
Will definitely recommend visiting the gardens to more of my friends and family.response / report this review -

The fact that I can keep coming back here over and over again is a sign of a great and well run botanical gardens. Free entry (yay!) and a highly dedicated group of volunteers running the quaint and very reasonably priced tea garden. Please support these people to keep the gardens great. It’s so lovely to have a space like this in the city to appreciate nature, get some extra oxygen and wind down.

This is the biggest botanical garden in the world and is in the world's top 5. Host unique and limited plants, trees, and flowers in the world, ranked in the top 5 globally. Everyone can walk in freely everyday at least between 8am - 5pm. It's a world class picnic, outing and relaxation spot. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world Something like the Garden of Eden.

Huge green space at the centre of Durban. Great venue for photography or family picnics. There's two parking areas and road side parking as well. Entrance is free but donations are appreciated.
The gardens were established in 1849 by John Medley Wood yes, it's kinda funny that his name was Wood. There are trees still growing here that were planted with his own hands over a hundred years ago. You will be walking among trees that were around during both world wars, trees that saw old and new South Africa and trees that would be around long after you've left.
We saw hundred of birds including storks, cranes and pelicans who nest beside the huge lake. Little weaver birds that dance among the lotus flowers.
The gardens are pet friendly provided they're on a leash. Please remember to pick up after your pets.
There's also an orchid house that grows orchids all year round.

An absolute paradise right in the middle of Durban. This is a 15 hectare (absolutely huge), natural wonderland. Take time to explore or kick off your shoes and enjoy a picnic.

This is the Durban Garden get away. Amazing public place to relax and forget about the city around you. Entrance is free. There are guided tours available by qualified staffed that are amped about what they do. This is however a paid service but worth it. Saturday’s are great for picnicking and watching all the wedding parties come for their photos!!

Great lush gardens all year round. Neatly maintained displays and pathways.
I always enjoy the Orchard house and exploring the top part of the gardens where you get a beautiful view over Durban.
The only downfall for me is the tea garden, where you are occasionally met with less than friendly assistance, and the manner in which they deter the monkeys - after all it is a botanical gardens and the monkeys once natural habitat.response / report this review -

Absolutely fantastic garden to visit. Beautiful and clean. Large variety of trees, plants and shrubs. Beautiful orchid garden. Large green areas for picnicking. Large duck pond. Large variety of birds that visit as well. Interesting pathways to follow. Tea garden. Large hall that one can hire for any function. Lots of parking. Three entrances to the park. A must visit👌

The Botanic Gardens always makes for a lovely day. You won't regret giving yourself a few hours to peruse South Africa's oldest indigenous garden's. Also visit the tea room for scones with jam and cream .

The Botanical Gardens is a wonderful oasis in the city of Durban.
The tea room was very half hearted in service and in need of a good dusting. No scones or crumpets were available 20 mins before closing time. Our chairs were literally whisked away five minutes before closing with no chance of a second cup of tea from the pot. Very disappointing to experience this on a Saturday afternoon when taking a visitor from far away for a special treat.response / report this review -

Superbly Well maintained garden, some grand trees are 100 years old, a lake with range of birds, Egyptian goose, an orchid park, so on. A must visit for tourist in Durban.

A real treasure in Durban. It has many firsts for Africa. The focus in on trees, they are breath taking. There is also a world renowned orchid collection
