We had previously eaten here when the menu was still a la carte, I thought we might miss the optionality that a full menu offers but the tasting menu had such wonderful options.
Unlike usual fine dining the star dishes weren't only confined to the full tasting menu, in fact the beef cheeks dish we really wanted was on the shorter menu.
The food was fresh and well balanced. Pushing your palate whilst staying true to classic flavour combinations. A real delight.
Our only complaint would be that since we chose the smaller menu we got less attention. Our dish compilation and wine pairing weren't explained but the table next to us having the 'full menu' had the sommelier, hostess and even chef talking them through their food.
Definitely not enough to put us off going again. A lovely 'simple' option for a special occasion.
Such a horrible hostess!! Asked for no peas and mash on my plate and the hostess says to me “we are not spur”!! Could not believe how rude and arrogant! If I wanted spur, I would have gone to spur. What I wanted was a gourmet meal but with no mash and peas. So after being rude and arrogant to me(without apology I may add), they gave me a piece of hake with no peas and mash. I will never return and don’t recommend anyone who has a select palate and has preferences to go here. And if you don’t like rude and arrogant hostesses, maybe skip this place
We went for lunch & had the eight course wine & juice pairing degustation menu. The juices are an amazing idea if you don’t drink alcohol and was truly innovative. The wine matched the food very well but none of the wines were exceptional & I would certainly not buy them. The food was up & down. Not sure if the head chef was there for lunch. Scallops, one delicious and delicate and the other over cooked and rubbery. The trout and kabeljou were both overcooked and the duck was disappointing. That being said, the service, presentation and overall taste of the food was still worth four stars. The wine service was exceptional, which included the juice to match each dish. The final bill and price tag calls for five + star food which this was not.
The restaurant is truly lovely. The service is very kind and courteous and the restaurant isn't massive so you have a more personal experience. Booking is absolutely necessary even a week in advance. In terms of food I describe it as a culinary journey. There are two menus a standard four course meal or a degustation six course meal. Either one will show you knew flavours and blends that is hard to find anywhere else. It is a very pricey restaurant but most definitely worth it for special occasions.
What an amazing birthday experience! The wine pairing is definitely the way to go. The food and flavours were top notch. Thabani gave us amazing service and his knowledge of the wines was incredible. It made for a very interesting and informative tasting. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful, inventive and sometimes playful food. The waiters and sommelier were so knowledgeable and entertaining as we ventured through the menu, which makes it an experience, not just a meal. Huge fun in a very classy setting. Pricy, naturally.
This restaurant is undoubtedly the best in Joburg. The food is of the highest quality. Wine pairing is excellent and service is good. Definitely worth the experience.
Hands down the best fine dine restaurant in Gauteng. The chef's recommended tasting menu is awesome journey. We opted for the non-alcoholic pairing menu, and the taste combinations were amazing. Heston Blumenthal's influence is evident in the cooking style and fine dine approach presented by Marthinus!
Everything. I loved everything. It was a little difficult to find at first but once we walked in all of that didn't matter at all anymore. We went for the four course dinner option - every course was an incredible foodie adventure I can't quite describe. The waitstaff are super attentive to the point where anytime I left the table, I returned to find my napkin neatly folded. All in all it has just been an wonderful, incredible experience that I hope to repeat. Soon.
Such a fun experience! The food and drink pairing was incredible both times we did it. Food is delicious and so beautifully presented.
Great place to eat. Has two set menus to choose from. Everyone at the table needs to order the same menu. You have options to choose from on each menu and can pair your food with wine. Very up market and expensive. Didn't feel rushed from one course to the next.
I'm very particular about my food and, and I have to say this was the first dining experience that i would describe as "perfect"! The menu is very well thought out. The stuff members all seem to love what they do, nothing is too much trouble from them. My husband and i went for the degustation menu, what a treat! The best quail ever, in fact the best everything! It was so good I couldn't stop smiling.😄
2nd time here and was as spectacular as the 1st, food and service is outstanding.
Excellent. Friendly professional staff. Stunning food, simple elegant decor, fantastic wine.
This top 10 restaurant in SA is worth a try. If you can't get a booking try "sister" restaurant next door which serves tapas that will not disappoint! The pulled pork steamed buns are dreamy!
At first DW Eleven - 13 seems to be an overrated expensive place to have lunch or even supper so this is a place that you shouldn't judge but it's cover or By the price Tag. They get extremely full so a reservation is a must. They have a couple of packages which includes drinks and 6 course meal.
The food is absolutely amazing, very very tasty the and looks really good as well as really hood service. I would really recommend that you try this place before you judge it.
