On Friday 02 March, we drove through from Nelspuit, on our way to where we were staying for the weekend. We stopped at Cradle of Life, booked a game drive and buffet lunch for Sunday. Resulting in a total of R560.Very excited for the whole buffet and Game drive, we arrived on Sunday.. Two hours early for our game drive, and 30 mins early for the buffet, which, we were told, would start at 12.
We were very very dissapointed, to say the least.
As we were early, we were told to take a seat at the restaurant, and get a drink, and that we would be informed once the buffet was ready.
We went on to take our seats outside, but waited nearly 10 mins for a waiter to take notice of us. Once we got her attention, we had to ask for menus to be able to order our drinks..it took her about 5mins to bring the menus.. And we waited, once again, for her to come back and take our order. We moved to the inside, since we hoped that that would maybe let the waiter notice or remember us. We took our seats inside and my boyfriend called the waiter to inform her we moved to the inside, and also gave her the order for our drinks. But sadly, we had to remind her twice that we were waiting for our drinks.
12:00 passed and 12:15 we noticed people dishing up from the buffet, so we got up to go and dish up ourselves, and our waiter, who ensured us that she would inform us once the buffet was ready, yelled from the other side of the room, "it's ready" and pointed at the buffet.
Dishing up, another disappointment awaited us. Really a sad excuse for a lunch we paid R120 for.
The rice was cold, and the meat was dry.
Not only did we have to go through the bad experience of a dissapointing lunch, we noticed a dog, roaming around the restaurant where in fact people were eating. We finished our meal in about 15 mins, since there was so little and our food was cold. It was also very dissapointing to see the floor of the restaurant so dirty, and the guy who I believed made the lunch, wearing a green shirt, and black hair net, walking around, chewing food.
On our game drive the person feeding the lions rushed our tourguide and there was no time left after every feed to give us more background etc.
When I sent an email to the owner to just inform him of the dissapointing experience he contacted me and yelled and me and told me that everything I logged a complaint about was bullsh*t. He told ne that people go there with expectations that are too high, and that he is sick and tired of the critism, and that this is the new S.A. and standards has dropped everywhere and us people shouldn't expect so much.

A good stop-over to stretch legs and a cup of coffee or quick meal / cold drink when travelling to / from Badplaas.

Good stop over for the children with the small animal park. Great valley views from restaurant deck. Food was tasty but service was slow.

A weekend getaway or short holiday, this is the destination to be, the place offer chalets which can accommodate up to 6 person per chalet,. There is also morning and afternoon game drives, what is so special about the game drive, is that you can see all the different types of big cats, from panther to jaguar, Siberian tigers to white lions, the game drive takes about 1-1 and half hours and it is very breath taking!

Beautiful chalets at a reasonable price in a boutique nature reserve. Fitted with many self catering necessities like a gas braai stand and a kitchen with utensils. Great views of the Badplaas mountain ranges too.

Visited the place on 30/09/2017 with my colleagues and slept for one night everything was up to standard the rooms were very clean nd also the stuff at the reception on our arrival were very friendly and understanding and welcomed us with warm hearts. Keep it up I'm definitely going to come bek again n also recommend ur place to my friends.

Lovely place for a family getaway, from the game drive to the animal farm and play area. The kids were happy. I would go back any day.

Very good and affordable food, one of the ladies that deals with making bookings for the game drives can't properly understand and or assist you in English. Our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable about all the animals we found during the 2hour tour and we loved it.

We visited the restaurant and went on the wildlife drive. The drive was facilitated by an informative ranger and we opted for the slightly more expensive time slot at 14h00 when they feed the big cats. Along the way we saw giraffe, zebra, springbok, eland and some other buck. At the cat enclosure there were lions, tigers, hyenas, wild dogs, cheetah and a few smaller of the cat family. We got an added treat of being able to quickly pet the baby lions while mom and dad were having lunch. My only concern was that the ranger admitted the cats had been acquired purely for economic reasons and I certainly hope they won't be shot by some hunter as Canned Lion.
We toured the museum of geological rocks and formations but found it could be greatly improved considering its landmark status and potential place where life may have started. Considering the region is steeped on million year old history I found it rather lacking and embarrassing if that's the best display we could put together.
The restaurant served up some delicious sirloin steaks and milkshakes at very reasonable rates while overlooking the farm zoo.response / report this review -
