Never expected to buy anything in California these days. My clothing taste has predominantly been with the French designers, in France during their le soldes season, every year, maybe on occasion picking up a piece here and there during my travels but never in California, which was how I had always been in my 20s.

Finished dinner and saw a mob of people on Clement, young, youngish, families. Turns out it was the Richmond microhood Thursday eve. I stopped by one stop that sold gifts and tees, mobs of people and nothing that exciting, the next door was okay as well, and then the third was Kisha and the owner was the one who greeted me. A cute young Asian designer, who offered free champagne and 10% off everything.

We women are vain creatures. We like sizes that are smaller than we had anticipated. That's a fact. If you are a size 10, and you can fit a size 8 in a particular store, you may want to pick that up, it's human nature. I had exactly 5 minutes to browse before the next event. My GF had a glass of champagne and was supposed to be the one who told me it was time to go, but she was happily browsing as well. Spotted a blue dress. Tight fit, size looked snug, sort of like Bebe sized, designed for petite Asian woman, Ordinarily, I'd wear a size medium but out of curiosity I picked up a size small just in case as well. Store owner, the same cute Asian woman, brought me to the back dressing room and told me that given the cut, I may need to do the medium. All right. I did. It fit funny. Disappointed but relieved that my allotted time was up, I was about to leave when she said, "Wait, I know why, you need to go small." I was very skeptical. Medium seemed right. But under her advice, I did, it fit well. A bit snug but sort of built for my body type. She laughed. "I know my clothes." She apparently was not just the owner but the designer.

Here I was, walking out of a shop, owning a piece of cute blue dress, fit just right. As a petite Asian woman myself, finding clothes that fit well in America is a challenge. In France is where women like me go, but not any more. Clement street's KS may of me. Next time, allow more time.
