Pleasant wines.
The Calitzdorp Wine Cellar is both a major source of employment as well as a highly respected wine and port producer in the Little Karoo. Their wines and ports have an enviable international reputation. We were lucky enough to witness the entire process, from when the grapes of differing colour and type arrive from various farms; each consignment is weighed classified then the tractor and its trailer are side tipped into their respective off loading bays whereupon the stalks and leaves are immediately separated. Then the grapes are sent to be pressed and the juices are stored in specific vats for fermentation. We saw many storage tanks and wooden vats some of which had a storage capacity for a sizable 100,000 litres.
The Cellar is supported by a welcoming retail outlet where sampling takes place before one may place an order. A visit to this Cellar is highly recommended in fact its a must, enjoy the experience.
Great views. Good value small plates. Good wine spot!
Beautiful spot, and we were lucky enough to miss the big crowds at the other wineries. Decent but small selection of wines to choose from, including 2 ports. Restaurant only opens at 4pm
Nice place. Restaurant only open at 16:00.
Was fine for what I needed.
Our guests get a welcome glass of the Calitzdorp Cellar's Cape Ruby on arrival. The wine is a consistent award winning port style wine. Another of the wines we stock is their unwooded Chardonnay.
An easy stroll away from us. Lunch at the Lookout Post will delight with beautiful views over the Gamka Valley and Nels River
