We stayed in their lovely Val Johannes cottage. Beautiful place and one of the last farms in the Gamkaskloof. We arrived tired, dirty and hungry after biking into the valley after descending Die Leer (the Ladder) and stayed two nights here before biking out of Die Hel to Swartberg Pass. The cottage is well-equipped and the bed linens were terrific and comfortable. Wonderful owners who were heading to Oudsthorn the next day for a shopping trip and picked up braai meat and vegetables for us as well. Gorgeous views from the cold plunge pool in the back. Highly recommended.

We visited The Hell in December 2012. We stayed one night in Oom Hannes's House and one night in the camp area. The drive into the Hell was an experience in itself. When we got down into the valley, we were welcomed by Piet Joubert and his wife Marienette. They had baked us a warm fresh good tasting bread. We were also welcomed by the farm Manager Donald. We met his whole family that were visiting the valley as well. What a fantastic family. Donald really made us feel welcome. Our stay in The Hell was a fantastic, relaxing and a peaceful one. Learning the truth about The Hell from Donald and Piet was a real eye opener verses the other "strange stories" one reads about. The "swemdam" was very well used. The word "hell" can be used in a lot of phrases. "Hell of a trip in", Hell of a fantastic place", As hot as hell", "Hell of a history", "Hell of a nice people" and a Hell of a stay".
