Well looked after and very informative.
Really enjoyed this was disappointed that very little info on Boer side, with the wagons. However when you cross over to the Zulus side you are met by a guide who takes you around. Very intresting
the best choice of the day to have visited the site on 16 Dec 2017,
A very well-maintained historical and heritage site.
Heart throbbing, emotional and spiritual and a great place to spend time with family
Was wonder ful
Was a wonderful visit to the past of SA laager area well laid out and clean it was abt 3 yrs ago dont knw if the roads leading to it is safe now.
JC the caretaker completely ruined the experience for me. From the moment I entered, this 23 year old loudmouth, know it all gave me his completely unsolicited opinion of everything that is wrong with South Africa under the current black government. What does that have to do with the Battle of Blood River? The number one rule of historical interpretation is that you don't impart your personal biases and you certainly don't ever criticize the political or religious views of visitors when they haven't disclosed anything about themselves or their views to you. This guy has a big chip on his shoulder and is absolutely the worst spokesperson for the site and his country. He didn't provide me with any relevant information about the history of the sitehe only completely put me off with his racist and ignorant tirade. Replace the guy with someone that understands how to interact with people from different countries and appreciates diversity of opinion regarding history and humanity.
On a final note, why do people always glorify these kinds of events or portray them as acts of heroism or divine intervention? God had nothing to do with what occurred here. 500 Voortrekkers armed with modern weaponry mowed down a few thousand Zulus armed with nothing but spears. Not much of a contest. How many times has this scenario played out throughout history with the white man coming out on top?
Experience with God taking control of a hopeless situation
So much effort has gone into preserving the rich history of this battle. The laager is an amazing work of living historical art.
