They took my childhood dream and made it a reality! Best place ever! They are so kind, helpful and support you in gaining confidence to interact with the sharks as well as the beautiful ocean life around you! Absolutely without any doubt, the best thing I've ever done!

Beautiful location. Food and drinks. Service very slow. Furniture and decore old and some broken but hey this is the beach. Dress casual. Fish was served upside down, very thin and tasted a bit old. Salad fresh. Limited draft but they are fixing gas. Some prices e.g. menu not same as till slip - informed there was a price increase. Pity used to have excellent food. Was worth riding to Umkomaas but not again.

Nice location close to Aliwal Shoal, equipment was sometime a bit beat up but always working as it should. Would recommend them more for experienced divers. The accommodation and common areas was very basic but with great sea views! It's all about the diving here! :)

Great operation!
I did 4 dives incl. a baited shark dive and also stayed at the center.
- the boat and captain were great
- the rental gear was not brand new but it did its job
- the dives site were phenomenal
- the shark dive was a real highlight
- the room was cosy
- and the staff was really nice.

Great dive shop with super friendly and amazing staff. I highly recommend them for all your diving needs and adventures. They are also great for padi courses. Had Adrian as an instructor and nothing but praise for him and the shop!

Shark cage diving yesterday was the most awesome experience for me as a sea-faring novice. The Team were exceptionally helpful, talking us through every step of way. The bonus was Whale sightings on route to the reef and the boat ride breaking through the waves was exhilarating. Kudos to the Aliwal Shoal Scuba Team for this 5 star experience.

I just thought I would write a short review about my experience at Aliwal Shoal Scuba. I came for my open water dive course in August 2015 and I must say the staff were quite professional and seemed to comfort me when ever I started to get stressed and nervous, during the pool dives and ocean dives my instructor was very helpful in explaining some of the work I did not understand. The skippers on the boats were always entertaining us with jokes as well as giving helpful advice. I would highly recommend this dive center to anyone who is looking to take up diving as hobby.

We were travelling from London so we had a lot of questions but the centre were more than happy to answer these questions.
They were also able to collect us from our hotel saving us from navigating transport options in South Africa.
My partner and I are Advance Open Water divers but had not dived for two years so it was necessary for us to have a Refresher Dive. We have done several of these mainly in the Red Sea and Europe but never has one been so thorough. I was extremely impressed with the level of instruction and they were happy for you to take your time to ensure you were totally confident.
Day one we did a Reef dive followed by a Baited Shark Dive. Personally I preferred the Reef dive as we were lucky enough to see Spinner and Ragged Tooth Sharks amongst loads of other excellent sea life, too much to mention. The baited dive allowed us to get up close and personal to Blacktip sharks and there were a lot of them!
Day two we did two Reef Dives. Again they were excellent.
We have dived for years in the Red Sea and what impressed us with this centre was the attention to detail and the quality of the equipment which we were hiring.
After the dives their was opportunity to go to a popular restaurant located next door or just chill at the centre with a beer.response / report this review -

My husband is a diver, I am not, so cannot comment on that. This must be by far the best accommodation in the whole of Umkomaaz. They are really clean and their decoders have multiple channels to choose from. I love their showers!!! The room had a sea facing view, I subtracted one star because of the green looking pool right underneath your window, between you and the sea The best thing is that you don't need to cross the railway lines to get to the beach. You are right there. There is a lovely restaurant next door for when you get hungry. The guys at the shop were really friendly and even offered me a trip on the boat and I was not aware that I could float around in the shark cage - that looks like something to do soon. I love photography and enjoyed the views around the place and at the restaurant. I also like the fact that they don't make a noise until the wee hours of the morning. I thought the price for accommodation was very reasonable and would definitely recommend them.
