  There is always so much more to see beneath the surface of the sea! This amazing Giant Clam Sanctuary is located within a village marine protected area in Savaia, Upolu.💙🇼🇸✈️ Did you know that giant clams are, surprisingly, part animal and part plant!? Like corals, giant clams have plant-like cells that require sunlight – that's why they inhabit shallow, clear waters down to about 60 feet deep. Perfect for snorkelling - but watch the tide - you don't want to get too close!...

  Sometimes on our flights between Samoa 🇼🇸 and American Samoa 🇦🇸you get a bird's eye view, and sometimes you get a captain's view! 😀 Either way, you get to do a bit of time travel (Pago Pago is 24 hours behind Apia, but you can fly between the two with us in less than 30 minutes!). 📷 Fa'afetai tele lava to @lysara_odyssey who flew with us recently between Apia and Pago Pago (American Samoa).   Malo lava to this little friend flying with all the colours of Samoa! 💙🇼🇸 Samoa's only parrot, the Segavao, or Bluecrowned Lorikeet. is a tiny jewel of a bird – only 19 cm long – this green lorikeet has a red throat, a sapphire blue crown, and belly patch shading from red at the top to purple at the bottom. In historic times, these colourful feathers were used to decorate fine mats! Mostly seen upcountry, Segavao sometimes come in to villages to feed on the nectar of banana ...(misiluki) , coconut (niu) and coral tree (gatae) flowers, however they are not easy to see in spite of their bright colours! Your first clue to their presence is often their high-pitched whistles, given as they fly overhead or scramble in the top of a coconut tree. 🌴⛰🌳🌺🇼🇸 📷Fa'afetai tele lava to @gahooley for this image and h/t to @manoatours 🙌🏽
