Philosophy
Our Early Childhood Care and Education Centre caters for children from 3yrs to 5yrs old, and offers a play based learning curriculum.
Research has shown that play is the best exercise for the brain, because it provides the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. Children in all cultures are pre-programmed to learn about the world through play. They naturally “discover, create and learn to become critical independent thinkers” while experiencing all the joys and delights of childhood.
Children are active learners who make sense of their world and themselves when they have opportunities to investigate and explore materials and ideas through play and interactions with others. Learning occurs as part of the social and cultural interactions between children and parents, families, teachers, community members and others.
To this end we aim to provide a warm, caring, supportive and safe environment , where each child is nurtured and valued, and has the opportunity to grow, wonder, imagine and enquire, to learn and develop meaningful relationships with adults and other children. Our centre will be a place where each child will feel valued and respected.

CORE VALUES

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
• One of our main beliefs is to develop within the child the love of learning by providing a very generous and broad education; creating a balance between academics, the arts and humanities. We encourage learning through experiences, creativity and practical application.
• We aim to encourage our students to learn to think, problem solve, work individually and in teams.
• To maintain throughout their school years “their love of learning”. We encourage each child to be a lifelong learner, recognizing that we never stop learning and discovering new things, even as adults.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
• To encourage within each child a sense of who they are in the world, to develop self-confidence, honesty and integrity, grace, and a commitment to achieve their highest potential.

SERVICE
• To look beyond oneself and serve others in the school community and beyond.
• To respect and protect the environment and promote an awareness of environmental issues both locally and globally.

RESPECT FOR ALL
• We believe each child is an individual and a person of worth.

A big thank you to Brian Tete for coming in to talk to our upper primary students about studying in Turkey, and his other travels. We hope this will inspire our students to expand their minds about their future!

The junior primary made coconut cookies this week! They scratched coconuts from our trees, dried it in the oven, and mixed it all up themselves (with some assistance from the teachers 🙂 ).

If you are looking for new places to visit in Santo, our upper primary students would recommend Loru Conservation area. On the last day of term 2, students visited the conservation area on the east coast, and were able to learn about how the land is managed, and even saw a coconut crab or two. A big thank you to Santo.Travel for helping us organize the trip!

This term the Upper Primary students are working with the Junior Primary students on a children's book project. The Upper primary students will be writing, illustrating, and making their own children's book. On Friday they visited the junior students and interviewed them to see what kind of books they like to read.

In honour of Children's Day, our junior primary students will be learning about their right to live and learn in a safe environment, and other rights included in the Rights of the Child. Yesterday they learned about safety networks and who to talk to when they feel sad or scared.
