Walking into Bong hostel is like walking into the biggest family in Vietnam, locals and foreigners alike. Wonderful & helpful staff (including their staff of local guides for touring!) and fluent english speaking owner make wonderful conversation at family dinner and overall engaging experience. Clean comfortable dorm beds, convenient and affordable bike rentals, and free travel advice and riding tips! :) I took the 4 day loop with motorbike rentals and guide, and had the most wonderful time!

Had such an amazing time at Bong Hostel! The staff is incredibly knowledge about bike tours in the area and can tailor a perfect itinerary for you based on how much time you have and your level of comfort on a motorcycle. We only had two days, so Dung, the manager, arranged an amazing trip for us around the region by car. Dung was an unforgettable travel companion - funny and charming! Our last night was spent with staff enjoying a family-style dinner and drinking locally made corn whiskey.

Room is spatious and offers a relatively soft matress. The family dinner is cheap and incredibly good. The owner is helpful and can plan your trip in the region. It's a really good place to stay during your Ha Giang visit.

Do not use! Booked a bus through their bus company from lao cai to ha giang. It was branded as bong hostel. When making the booking we asked for a small van, a 9 seater and we were assured this is what we would get. Bus that turned up was a stinking old 22 seater. Had to get on it because we had run out of time to get to ha giang. When we complained to the bus organizer he threatened to throw us off the bus in the middle of no where. He was very rude and aggressive, not only towards us but to other passengers as well. He was physically pushy and aggressive to several other guests over very small things. Shoved a bag into one ladies legs for example.

This review is about the motorbike rental service as I did not sleep in this place. Watch out they do not offer the standard 24 hours motorbike rental as in western countries. So if you if pick up the mortorbike - lets say - Thursday midday and want to drop it off on Monday midday, this is not counted as 4 days, but as a 5 day rental. You better off getting your motorbike from your hotel and ensure you actually pay for the whole 24 hour day rental. I successfully rented my motorbike at Huong Thao 2 hotel who offer me what I wanted: full 24 hour rental :)

Great place, good company and reliable tours and help! Bikes are cheap and the staff are very knowledgeable about the northern loop route and accommodations/attractions.

Nice place at the center of Ha Giang, Usually with many backpakers staying there.
You can get information about the area and rent a motorbike, they dont have automatic once only semi automatic so I had to find another place to rent, we drove only 1 day to Tam Son and back, so the automatic Honda Air Blade did a great work for us!

Towel is not included in the room price. Take in consideration that you will have to pay an Extra 40,000 to take a shower after checkout and pay extra to store your bags unless you rent the motorbike with them....

I guess it's the only alternative in the city..
It's a great location to start the bike tours, to get all the information and to meet all other backpackers..

But, it's the only place in all of our 4 mounth trip that told us to pay money for storing our big bags for half a day, also we had to pay them money for using the shower when we came back from the bike tour, after staying in this guesthouse at night.. cause they say, that once you do checkout you're not a guest anymore...

This place is infested with bed bugs. We found live bugs in all beds in dorm 2. The staff does not have the facilities to address the situation properly. Right now, there are no western volunteers working at the hostel and communications are very difficult.

We originally were booked in for 3 nights but extended our stay as the place was so lovely. The staff are great and speak very good English, they can help with onward travel and day trips etc. Everywhere was so clean and modern, great location near to the market's and main street and also the ATM was a 2 minute walk away. We did a lot of our outings with the hostel as they organise bike rides and going to the market's and knowing the best places to go out in! They also do a loyalty point system which came in handy as we booked another night a few weeks later and got discounted for that stay. Amazing place and would stay here again!!

This is an amazing hostel. Immediately the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. It was clean, quiet but still had a really fun atmosphere with a great community. Access to central Ha Giang is really simple and the surrounding area is cute and fun to explore. This is my first hostel experience but I don't even feel the need to try other ones, Bong will be my go-to! Thanks for an awesome stay!

We hired a car with driver from Bông hostel after we checked around the town to compare prices. Seems like only this place can give you everything you need. Good price and quality tour, the driver cannot speak English but the owner can support for you anytime, which was very helpful and we used google translate with the driver which was also very useful. You can share car with other guests there to get price cheaper. My advice is have a group 3-4 people for the car, as we had 7 in our group and made it stressful in the mornings with people getting up late and the group all wanting to do other things than each another, you can leave backpacks for free at Hostel and when go back they can help you book the bus go to Hanoi or other destinations, we booked the bus to Hanoi and there was a free mini bus from the hostel to the bus station. Our car driver was very nice, he was a soldier in the army in 1979 in the border was with China, he knew some really amazing villages and site seeing places where no tourist are just the local ethnic minorities getting on with their daily work. This was a really amazing experience. We stayed in local homestay each night on our 3 night tour this made our experience even more better as we got to try a big variety of local foods, my friend was a vegetarian and didn’t struggle at all to find vegetarian dishes. Overall this tour is excellent value for money would recommend it to anyone who is planning to travel to Ha Giang

The staff were absolutely amazing here. The hostel is in a superb location and the facilities are very clean. The downstairs/lobby area is nicer than most hostels. There are have all services you need, motorbike rental, laundry, permits, etc….The receptionist super helpful, they can speak English perfect and chinese or French, they offer give you free maps and information. This was my first stay in a capsule style bed and I am very impressed. I would definitely book this place again if I return to Ha Giang
