One can enjoy good food here, I had the grilled shrimp tacos, ask for 2 tortillas when you order it otherwise it will crumble in your hand. The live music is all local musicians who are rockin' & rollin'. This is a must experience for all.
Another great place to eat on St. John! Menu items changed often. Everyone treats you like a part of the family!
Unfortunately, this place didn't live up to the reviews that we had read. Let me start by saying that the issues were 100% with service/atmosphere and that the sandwiches we ordered were very good.
We went for lunch and it seemed to be mostly locals in at the time. That's usually a good sign that the food must be good if the community frequents the establishment. However, since this was our first time, we had some trouble figuring things out. There is a window area off to the side of the kitchen that looks like it is where you would place your order. Yet, as we approached it, the woman inside ignored us and continued whatever she was working on, so we thought maybe we had the wrong spot.
We wandered around for a while and eventually came back to that spot and found the menu posted on a sheet of paper hung on the wall near that window. To our knowledge, this was the only menu available anywhere and there was only room for one person to read it at a time.
Eventually the lady came up to the window and asked us if we were ready to order. We did and after being given our total, I began to hand her my credit card. Her response was, "Cash only." Not, "sorry we don't accept plastic" or "I'm afraid we only take cash." Just a gruff, two word reply. I completely understand some places only take cash and we were prepared for that, so it wasn't a big deal, but her demeanor wasn't very polite.
As we sat and waited for our food, we noticed that virtually all of the patrons were working quietly at their laptops and the place was practically silent, no music, no chit-chat. It was almost somber. We weren't feeling very good about things, but then the food arrived.
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the sandwiches. They were seasoned perfectly, the bread was amazing and they were very, very good.
Overall, it's not that Pickles is a bad place, it's just that compared to everywhere else we've been on the island, it was lacking in service and welcoming attitude. The food was great and I can see why the locals love it, but for first time visitors, it was rather cold and there are plenty of other options on St. John that we preferred.
Love this place!!! Very affordable AND they have gluten free bread for sandwiches! Yum! This is a bacon & cheese sandwich!
This place is absolutely amazing! We went for brunch on a Sunday and it was the best! The live music, the atmosphere and the food were delightful. I will definitely be going back everytime I’m on St. John.
Great food, lots of locals!! Fun time at open mic night, Thursdays
Always a good meal and entertainment Thursdays.
Breakfast/Lunch place, great food ,decent prices. Clean, and have free WiFi. Occasionally have nighttime events like open mic on Thursdays.
Had a great time, food was good.
I'm coming here every day for cookies
Good music at open mic on wednesdays, food is good as well
The food is very good here. Homeade type of cooking. Mostly deli style sandwiches and salads. Their key lime pie is amazing!!!! I enjoyed their coral bay dip, there is two sides to yhe sandwhich i just couldn't wait to eat it. This place is must go to if in the area.
I was skeptical about ordering "the best burger" on an Island, but golly, was I wrong. This was great! Burger came out as ordered and in the right temperature. Juicy and thick patties! My wife and I loved it. Only request is to use larger plates. 😁
They have homemade everything. Good vegetarian selections and important stuff like cold single beers "to go" and great, always fresh, desserts. Wish they stayed open a little later in the afternoon.
Great spot. Sandwiches are amazing after a long hike in the National Park
