Doug Zumbach roasts the best coffee in Fairfield County, and his shop always has about 6-8 freshly brewed coffees available for self service, allowing you to take just a splash of something new if you're not sure what you want.
I would guess that there are roughly 30 different types of coffee available by the pound.
Traditionally, it has been a cash business, and I don't know if they'll start accepting cards, so, bring money.
After having Zumbach's coffee, the stuff you get from the Oregonian Moby Dick reference on Elm Street tastes like earwax.
If you live in or near New Canaan, do yourself a favor and try Zumbach's coffee. The Hawaii Kona blend is a rich, smooth treat, and Midnight Magic is an excellent low caffeine option for after dinner parties, and it tastes like the real, ungelded thing.
It would be nice if Doug would take a roasting apprentice and open more locations, but he has traditionally done all the roasting himself.
They do also offer a good selection of teas and herbal infusions, and I believe they offer espresso drinks as well, along with a number of flavor shots.
When I was little, I stopped in with my father, and Doug made me something called an Italian soda, which was a sweet, flavored, carbonated iced drink with cream in it. I can't say that I'd order it today, since the coffee is so good, but the point is that this place is a well curated coffee shop, run by someone with encyclopedic knowledge of his craft.response / report this review -

Great shop and what an amazing community supporter. They sponsor the yearly Caffeine and Carburetors car event in front of their shop. Over the years it has grown to a major event taking up all of downtown. Pictures are 2017

Best coffee I have had in the Southern CT area. The cinnamon hazelnut was AMAZING and my friend couldn't stop raving about the Carmel nut. They have limited selections to drink in store (wish there were a few more options) but had what seemed like millions of bean flavors to take home. Will definitely be back :)

Zumbach's Gourmet Coffee on Pine Street in New Canaan is a small gourmet coffee shop where they roast their own coffee beans in 30 different flavors not including the special blends like caffe latte and other delicacies. Zumbach's offers several high quality house-roasted coffees. What's better is that the roasting floor is part of the main room, allowing customers to witness the prices first hand, and granting first class access to the staff as they process the coffee. Excellent Joe and knowing where your food comes from? Priceless
