Wreaths Across America
Wreaths Across America is an event to pay tribute to fallen members of the military, honor those who serve and their families, and teach our children the value of freedom by placing wreaths on military graves at the holiday season. More than 1,000 locations around the country will take part in Wreaths Across America, including 24 offshore cemeteries, and ships in the Seven Seas.
The laying of the wreaths on military graves at Wyuka Cemetery will be Saturday, December 17, 2016. Contact Diane Bartels, 402 429 3342, for information about the time wreath laying will begin at the new solders circle, south of the Vine Street entrance. At 11:00 a.m., members of the 155th Nebraska Wing Civil Air Patrol, the Lincoln AFJROTC squadron, and an active military representative will present special wreaths bearing individual military branch flags and that of the POW/MIA. The thirty minute program will include music and Major General Daryl L. Bohac, Nebraska Adjutant General will be the speaker. The public is welcome to attend this event, which is Wyuka’s sixth year to participate in Wreaths Across America.
A public kick-off ceremony for Wreaths Across America will be held in the Warner Chamber at the state capitol, Monday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. The ceremony includes the AFJROTC Color Guard and musical selections by the Lincoln Southwest Chamber Choir. A proclamation will be read and a wreath will be presented for display in the Capitol. Remarks by Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley and wreath acceptance by Senator Matt Hansen, District 26 (Wyuka). Other Wreaths Across America cemetery coordinators from across Nebraska are invited.
