I'm going to start this review by saying that this critique is for this particular location and does not extend to the entire bank (that would have to be another rant, I mean, review). I've had 3 accounts with Woodforest if memory serves me and my feelings towards the way they handled my money were luke warm. Ya know, didn't agree with all that was in the depositors agreement but who does. My issue is with the people who run this particular branch. I've had two separate branch managers lie to my face on different occasions concerning different inquiries. First issue was with how the branch manager handled the opening of my second account. Previously, I had the Second Chance checking account, held it for a year, took an online test and showed them the printable "diploma". At that time they changed my account to the standard checking. Great, I don't have to pay a 10-13 dollar a month maintenance fee anymore. That account was closed. Which brings us to the opening of my second account. The manager told me he had to put me back into a second chance account after I paid the 5 dollar's I owed from the closed one. I said I already took the test. He said okay, go ahead and use the self serve computer they have on site to take it again. I took it, passed and then the screen went blank. Manager told me he would take care of it, that the account had to be opened as a second chance account and that he would personally change it cause I took the test, in front of him, while opening the account. 1, 2, 3, 6 months go by. Nothing is changed. I called him and asked what was going on. I was nice about it, I know things happen. But, he tells me he won't change it. Won't. I remind him of what he told me. He didn't care and then made up some garbage that I told him wasn't in the depositors agreement. Awkward pause. Followed by there's nothing I can do. I was mad, but, okay fine. I need a bank. Fast forward, I'm changing jobs and I'm about to set up direct depsoit. However, my account has been inactive for about 5 weeks. I go in and talk to the second manager about this as I don't want my direct deposit to go into a frozen or closed account. He tells me that accounts are frozen after 45 days. Okay, so now my account is frozen. So, what happens if my deposit hits a frozen account. "It won't show up online but we will be able to see it and access it." Okay, cool. I buy it and off I go. A few days later I want to make sure that what I was told is true so I go back and ask a rep who doesn't have an answer to anything. I see the manager in the back trying to avoid eye contact until I direct my conversation his way. Still pretends not to notice I'm trying to engage him. I stare until he looks up and tells me the exact OPOSITE of what he told me before. This time I get flustered and let them know I think the branch is incompetent. Fast forward to today. I have a Go Bank account. Love it. But, they hold personal checks for 2 weeks. Standard I know, but I don't want to wait. I sign the check over to my girlfriend who has a Woodforest account (she hates it) and ask her to cash/deposit for me cause Woodforest doesn't hold checks (one cool thing about them). They tell her that I NEED AN ACCOUNT FOR HER TO DO ANYTHING WITH IT. NO, NO, NO. IF I HAD AN ACCOUNT I WOULDN'T SIGN IT OVER, MORON. She then starts lying to my face about how they don't take pay to order of checks and haven't for 3 years. I know this is a lie cause I've done it at the Martinsburg branch and I called customer service before hand so I wouldn't sign it over for no reason. I again, let them know I think they're fools and I'm not buying their garbage. Oh, I forgot to mention She told me I needed an account cause how would they verify the funds..... Lady, you verify the funds from the payers bank. The payer. That's neither me or the person I signed the check over to. But the person who wrote the check. Yeah, you have to verify with that persons bank. Turns out the banks policy is that it's at the managers discretion. Jokes on me.
