Really nice pet store. They let their parrots out of their cages to roam the store. The parrots and parakeets are really friendly and will come up to you. The employees really try to sell you stuff though. I went in just to look at the pets, and every few minutes someone would ask "Do you need help getting something?" or something like that. I didn't really mind it though because it showed that someone always would be available if you needed anything.
I went there for aquarium supplies. Everything I wanted was out of stock. They had a ton of fish that Petsmart doesn't carry. Unfortunately, a lot of them were dead. The staff seemed nice, if not rushed. I'll come back for the hard to find fish. I'm not a mind blowing experience, though.
Excellent customer service! You don't find a knowledgeable staff like this at the big box stores. From water testing and building your aquarium's community to proper diet and care for your more exotic reptiles these folks know their stuff. Well worth the stop.
My family loves this place! We come from martinsburg to go here, it's the best pet shop in our area! Great prices. And great people. We have Gotten many of our animals from here! They where all healthy, and cared for. It's a open concept where you can interact with the animals. And they don't just carry the average animals. Love this place!
Great local and family friendly environment. I was able to find a aquarium part here, that I could not find anywhere else In Winchester. Also they have a great assortment of fish and animals that you won't find at other places. I also like the fact that the staff will take time to help you, instead of let you wonder around the store, as if you are a fish expert, or more knowledgeable than the staff working there. My tank is set, I'm definately going back there to support them, and get me some really great fish!!!!
I love going here, staff is friendly and knowledgeablethey have critters I've never seen in a pet store before! Soooo much better than the big corp.pet stores!
Winchester Aquarium is a 5 Star all the way..
Large Salt Water Selection
Zach and Staff was very helpful with every question or concern I had
I would definitely recommend Winchester Aquarium for your Pet Needs.
Family owned and operated pet store. This is the best pet shop in Winchester, good selection of products and pets. The employees are always available for answering questions and giving knowledgeable advice and answers. If I had one complaint, that would be that the store could really use a professional cleaning service to come in regularly. 🙄
Their staff is knowledgeable, not pushy salespersons! Will tell you exactly what you need or don't need! Always can find what we are looking for plus great prices! Better than a big box store!!
While the staff are usualy friendly and helpful, my most recent experience was not a great one.
I purchased a 10 wk old male ferret to comfort my older ferret (2 yr old) who had just lost her brother in a freak accident.
While discussing the baby ferret's needs with one of the employees, I asked about the likeliness of him having ECE. He assured me multiple times that "That should not be a concern" and the baby could "meet the other ferret within a week." He followed up with, "Path Valley Farms breeds for health. It is a super controlled and cautious farm. You should not be worried at all."
Of course, my older ferret contracted ECE after a couple of days and was rushed to the vet. If you don't know what it is, look it up. It's awful.
I called to warn the store employees that the other babies may be carrying it as well. Instead of getting apologies or gratitude, Jeff continuously "mansplained." He tried to convince me that she got the infection from stress. (FYI: He is not a veterinarian.)
I continuously told him that the vet diagnosed her with ECE and said it was NOT from stress but from the baby ferret, as ECE is a highly contagious viral INFECTION.
The phone conversation ended with him saying "Well, thanks for calling to let us know. Bye." He didn't say it with a tone (unlike many parts of the conversation).
I expected some sort of compensation because a ferret he sold me made my older ferret VERY ill. (Luckily the vet bill was only $130)
Instead, he tried convinced me that she magically contracted the virus all on her own. Sorry, but that guy is clueless. The first woman I spoke to said she had "no idea that could even happen."
Here's a tip for the store: EDUCATE yourselves. DON'T pretend to be a vet. BE FAIR to your customers. WARN customers on these issues. I will not be going to this store for any more animals.
LOVE the options and the workers! We visit every time we're in Winchester. Especially social Sunday! ;)
This place is super awesome to adopt animals from. The workers are very friendly and will go the mile to help the customer. The pets are treated very nicely, except one thing I don't like. We got our frog from this store, and he is happy and healthy! The only issue is the little container we got him in.. It seemed too small. He had nowhere to move, and it seemed his back was a little squished when he was in the small container. Please make the frog containers a little big larger. Other than that, I highly recommend this store! The crickets seem healthy, and are a delicious meal for our frog. We got our Russian Tortoise here, named Snapper. We've had him for five years, and he his happily munching lettuce in his terrarium today.
great selection, prices and staff. staff are always informative and helpful. this place is out of our way, but we prefer to come here over the other stores because of the great selection. once i bought a cage for my hamster, and the size stressed him out. i needed something bigger and they were able to take back the cage with a full refund and help me find something better. when my rats chewed through their cage, i needed something already put together and the nice employees helped carry the assembled cage to my car.
This is one of the only places I've been where customers can hold and love on the animals as you browse the store. It's worth it just to stop in and say hello to the ferrets!
Very clean store and very friendly/informative staff.
I wouldn't even give it one star. My first ferret I got here, was born with a tumor. They sold us a sick ferret. The second ferret we got, has been sick ever since we've gotten him. Path Valley ferrets suck! They are sick.. The Pet store told us Path Valley was the best, well they lied. If you are planning to get a ferret from here, don't do it! You will end up heart broken. My ferret is little over a year old, he should not be this sick! You've lost my service!
Amazing store ran by great people!!
My 2 dogs have gone through several brands of food before we started going to Winchester Aquarium & Pet Center, the staff helped us pick the right food and we have had no problems ever sense.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WITH FUR BABIES
I was honestly disappointed when I went into the petstore. It was the first time in a long while since I had been there. The store was not clean, the fish tanks needed servicing. A lot of dead fish in the tanks. Fish tanks were also extremely overcrowded. Some fish too large for the tank, and the debris was clearly fogging up the water. The prices are also extremely high too. I needed a heat emitter lamp for my snake tank and they wanted $34.99 for a $13 emitter. I will be going to Petco from here on out for my pet needs. I will also be ordered frozen rats on line as well as it is also half the price in comparison to the store. The people that work there though are still very friendly, but still always seem in a rush. They are the only thing that merits two stars from my review.
Sweet pets are for sale here. It has good service and friendly folks who work there. They also take great care of their pets. We have gotten at least 5 pets there and we are getting some neon fish to marrow. My parents got me a tank, water perifier, plants, and gravel. I honestly love this pet store and most of the animals in there.😜😝🤑🙃😏😘😍😎😀😁😂😃😄😅😆😉😊😋🤗😇💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
Great selection, fish were in pretty good condition (can't speak for the feathered or furred, but they all looked happy too). Would recommend!
