This Pigeon was found starving in someone’s yard. No bands on her legs so she is staying with us until we send her to a new home in the spring! #pigeon #bird #wildside #wildlife #animalnonprofit

We love our opossums! These wonderful creatures are nature’s clean up crew, eating pests like ticks!! They are the only North American Marsupial, carrying their young in a pouch. Wildside admits almost 400 wonderful opossums each year, mostly babies, because momma has been hit in the road. As spring approaches watch for more animals to be out and about!! #marsupial #opossum #pouch #nature #wildside #wildlife #michiganwildlife #nonprofit #animalnonprofit #rehabandrelease

We save feathers to use for imping. These are adult Red tailed Hawk feathers (bottom), juvenile Red tail Hawk(middle) and Red shouldered Hawk(top). (“Imping” is short for “implanting” feathers. Usually, we imp broken wing or tail feathers so a bird can be released as soon as possible, but sometimes we imp feathers to keep adjacent feathers from breaking while a bird is undergoing rehabilitation. In general, we imp birds of prey (raptors) because it can take over a year for them to naturally molt a broken feather. Rather than keep them in captivity waiting for a molt, we implant undamaged feathers so the bird can return to the wild sooner.
