The reviews were right! We were having trouble filing the divorce papers correctly. We knew that if we could not start the divorce process on our own there was no way that we could finish it on our own. We didn't have anything to fight over though. My girlfriend and I had a baby and broke up just after he was born. I did not realize that I was not automatically the dad in the Chicago system even though I was on the birth certificate. I thought that I could handle my divorce on my own but the paperwork was way harder than we expected and figuring out the court system was taking too long. I reached out to Jennifer at Ward Family Law. She explained the entire process and that we did not need to be high conflict or against each other to have a lawyer. She came into the case on my behalf and prepared all of the paperwork outlining everything that we had agreed to for settlement. We signed off on everything and got it done a month later before the Judge. It couldn’t have gone smoother and I’m so glad we made sure it was done right.

Our divorce case was long over but we still had three kids to put through college. When the time came my income had changed a lot due to Covid so I needed a lawyer to fight for me. I could only afford so much each month toward college expenses for my kids since my living expenses had increased while my pay had decreased. Once they explained the law and we worked through my finances we were able to reach a settlement with my ex where we are both helping the kids with college and I can still sleep at night! If you have any issues after your divorce is done, do not wait until it is too late to get the help that you need.
