This was a must tourist attraction for me. Nice little restaurant on the property which I believe was reasonably priced. The most interesting thing for me was the multiple photos on the wall in the back building. I could have spent hours looking at these photos. Generally, these were historical photos of the area. I liked that the photos were labeled. Just an interesting way to spend a couple of hours after hiking in the Badlands.
Service was quick. About 20 people ahead of me in line....from the time I got in line, placed my order and had my food only about 15 minutes elapsed. I had a burger with fries, shared a slice of cherry pie, chocolate covered donut, and chocolate chip toffee cookie. Food was fast-food good. It's more about the experience and atmosphere. Would recommend stopping to look around at all the shops within Wall Drug. I browsed only about half.
Definitely would not go out of the way here for food (although I will try the donuts tomorrow morning so maybe that will change my rating). Got a buffalo hot dog and a buffalo burger - burger was dry and did not have much flavor. Hot dog was better, a little salty but at least juicy. This is definitely one of those places where you go because you need food and can only sustain on granola bars and fruit for so long, and there aren't many options around but it is on the cheaper side compared to some other stuff I briefly looked up.
Must see if you're anywhere near Badlands, SD!! Great pit stop for a meal, clean restroom, free ice water (just like their billboards say). Plus a very varied shopping experience for all budgets.
There are also fun things for kids to see in mid courtyard and funny photo ops. Definitely a great place to rejuvenate after spending a few hours in Badlands but allow yourself a couple hours to shop and dine at Wall Drug.
One last thing: there's a unique little chapel for quiet meditation and prayers. We drive an older car and it never hurts to pray for safety on the roads and to avoid car trouble.
We saw the sign "Wall Drug Store" all along highway I-90 and became curious about what it was, so we decided to take it a look. :)
This place is, well, "interesting".... Buildings and decorations look pretty old fashioned, but the activities are very commercialized. It was quite crowded in the store. So for us, we just liked to quickly walk through it and then left.
This is probably a "once-is-enough" experience. Not too bad, but may not come back again. -__-
