The grounds are OK - pretty clean and shady. Be careful walking - many roots are exposed on the walking path. Some of the zoo was OK. It's nice to get close to the the large birds, goats and chickens and feed them. It's also odd to have animals (lemurs) in a dusty barn next to antique cars. Once you get to the large animals is when it becomes depressing. The poor black bear is in a tiny little cage. So are big cats. The cougar was pacing and looked miserable. The beautiful tiger needs to be rescued by the local tiger sanctuary. Many of the cages had dirty water for the animals to drink. These large animals don't need to be here forced to exist in these tiny, cramped concrete and wire cages. Send them to a real zoo where they can have space to move around. This place should remain as local petting type zoo. Families will still come with their children to feed the goats or chickens. I left two hours ago and I'm still depressed thinking about those beautiful animals stick in those tiny cages. This is not the worst zoo I've ever seen (that is Space Farms in NJ) but this one comes in second.

We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed our visit today!!! Will definitely be coming back in the near future. It's also priced where you can take your family. I'm a local and enjoyed myself very much.

A bit taken back with how filthy the entrance is. You walk into the building and the women are just sitting there WAITING for the next customer. Not an really busy place , they could be dusting the tops of the snake cages, cleaning the multi layers of dirt off the displays. fact: UNLESS YOUR IN A DUMP TRUCK OR GARDENING-DIRT DOES NOT SELL!
Regarding the animals. They did look healthy enough but it bothered me how most did not have any water. It was 84 today.
It seems to me if the zoo fee was raised to 15 a person, it could cover the cost of 2 to 4 employees to keep the grounds trimmed and clean. Beatification goes a long way to increase business.response / report this review -

Love love love this little place. So many animals to see. I am a true animal lover so the up close and personal moments made this all the worth while. I love the fact that you can feed so many of the animals. There are chickens and peacocks just walking around without a care in the world. If you come to Myrtle Beach, you have to visit this place!

this is Larry's wife, Emmy. We live here and have come to the zoo for many years. The animals are all feed well and they seem to love the visitors. The workers are very nice and it is great there is a lot of shade, especially in the hot summer. I look forward to coming in the Fall. I didn't see the tigers or lions but only two bears. I agree the bears should have more space. I know it is costly but a sign could be put up for donations to help give the bears and other large animals more room. The bears have a smaller space than the Baboons!!!??? I really hope Waccatee Zoo stays hereso wonderful to see the animals. I do wonder why the penguins and other small birds are in a small cage and unable to fly? Are they all rescued and injured and unable to fly? It all take $ and the word has to get out there and the county and city have to help enlarge it.

I will NEVER come back to this zoo. I was here 6 years ago and was saddened by the way the animals are made to live, I heard they got better so I brought my daughter for her first zoo trip. We were here 10 minutes and left. I was so sad at how the animals are STILL made to live. I heard a woman crying over the way the exhibits look. There were fences down all over, the cages are WAY to small for ALL of the animals and the place is just a mess. I heard a woman tell another customer as we were leaving that owns the zoo. I hope the owner reads this, I would NEVER admit to ownership of this animals hell hole. I hope it gets shut down and the animals go to better zoos

It was a fun day! My wife and I brought our 3 girls and had a great time! We live locally and our 2 oldest visit for field trips during the school year! The "farm" atmosphere makes this place. Way more up close and personal! All the animals were fed and watered, and there was plenty of staff around the entire farm! Well worth the price and experience.
P.S I'm not a friend or family to the owners and had a great trip, staff was polite and courteous and we will definitely return.
P.P.S Animals not only had food and water, but in the short time we were there, we saw about 20 people with 5lb bags of feed generously keeping the animals well fed!response / report this review -

I have been to this zoo about 4 times and my kids love it! Yes, some of the animals are in small cages, but are loved and cared for. This zoo does need donations/go fund me, or fund raisers for upgrades and better living quarters for some of the exotic animals. This zoo needs volunteers to help tend the animals and keep the zoo clean. They are in need of extra help! Instead of complaining about this place, volunteer, or donate to upgrade cages/fences. Telling people to not visit is only hurting the animals!
The reviews about malnourished animals are just not true! All the animals I viewed were all fat and some over weight! The lions and tigers are very, very old and well tended to. "Being in the wild and mother nature is way more cruel!"
Please visit, support, and/Or volunteer! These folks love these animals and do their best by them!response / report this review -

Coolest walk-through animal experience that I've done. Hopefully they'll get the hurricane Matthew debris cleaned up soon. Buy the big bag of peanuts, it makes the trip worth it. Feeding the animals (especially the baboons) is the best part!

I went here a few years ago and to this day I still think about the absolute horrible living conditions these poor helpless animals live in!!! As a animal lover it is heartbreaking to see large animals in such small cages. It's a memory that can never be erased! I hope this disgrace of a zoo gets shut down and these animals can go live out the rest of their lives in a better place!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ OR TIME AT THIS PLACE!! I DONT KNOW HOW THE OWNERS CAN LIVE WITH THEMSELVES KNOWING HOW THE ANIMALS ARE TREATED ON A DAILY BASIS!!?!! 😢😢😢😢😠😠😠

We just had the Best experience here!! Drove 15 hours to SC, visiting the zoo was the first attraction we did and it Did not disappoint!! Having 4.kids of various ages it's hard to find something for everyone. We ALL had a great time! We were very impressed with the variety of animals they had and the size of the zoo! Something I thought we'd be done with in 20 minutes lasted us 3 hours!!! The people were so nice and friendly. Very much a family atmosphere! You could tell the animals were Well cared for! The cages were clean. It really was an Awesome day and we Highly recommend it!! 😊😊👍🏼

So this zoo is an old school zoo like those of us born in the 70s or even our parents visited. But I have to say they're well staffed and it's easy to get around and the animals seem to be well cared for. The zoo is privately owned by a family.
Many of the buildings need to be updated and some of the larger animals could use larger pens, like the cougar and the Bears. But you could see that they're making an effort.the animals didn't seem like they were in distress. There were plenty of people cleaning and feeding the animals and their enclosures the day we went.
It takes about 90 invites to see everything. My kids, 5 and 4 enjoyed it. I appreciated the nostalgia, but For people who put a high priority on the care and keeping of animals, this might not be the place for you.response / report this review
