Got two coffees, hot and sour soup, sesame pancake with roast beef, an order of buns, and an order of dumplings. It was all $13! I came back for dinner and got a green tea with my order and it was amazingly good too. Very fragrant. I love this place! It's good for a quick bite and then leave. Lots of ppl waiting for seats. You should save a seat before you order or just do take out.
One of the best places in Chinatown to get the best bang for your buck! Don't expect great service because this is a no frills get in and get out kind of place. But do expect great food for the price point. Nothing is more than $5! The fried dumplings are a must get! Also the pancakes are to die for! The pancakes alone or stuffed with veggies and meats are so flavorful, crispy, and the right amount of breadiness. Go in hungry come out stuffed!
This is a conditional 5 star. It's not that the food as others have said, is the best, because I can tell you if you really expected top grade food that's not what it is. Don't call me out on this, because there is another noodle house not far away where the fried pork buns are softer and fuller.
The reason this place gets a 5-star is that it is among the highest quality obtainable at shockingly low price, granted we are in Manhattan. This place wins for being such a cheap eating destination with good quality and I expect it's business will continue to grow.
Vanessa’s is a NYC treasure with an authentic Chinatown vibe. I come here at least one a month whenever I am craving dumplings. The food is unbelievably good and you definitely get a “bang for your buck”. It’s hard to pick a favorite from the menu from steamed or fried dumplings, their pancake sandwiches, fried pork buns, noodles and the steamed red bean bun is incredible. The environment is busy, it can get a little hot on the inside & the bathroom is .... very interesting. It’s usually really busy but your food comes out quickly. Seating is also limited but I’ve always secured seating for 2. Definitely a casual atmosphere but a fun date spot!! *Pro-tip* they offer a pick-up from the street and serve bubble tea treats as well
Vanessa's has quickly become one of my go-to spots when I'm in the LES/Chinatown area. I wasn't hooked at first, because I found the establishment's steam dumplings to doughy. But the fried dumplings? Perfection? Soft, with crisp edges. A nice chunk of meat, too. Recently, I discovered that the fried pork buns are even better, as they're larger and carry a decidedly buttery flavor. My one gripe? The customer service can be a bit hit or miss. A woman working the counter damn near tossed napkins at me when I asked for extras.
