I graduated 6 years ago. I love UCSB but I also see the pros and cons of attending this gorgeous campus.
Pros:
Top notch professors, including noble prize holders. Gorgeous campus right on the beach. Perfect weather. Academically challenging. Top research school in California and in the nation. Nationally recognized. Part of the prestigious UC system. Great value for a quality education.

Cons:
You will feel like a number, one in a million. At times you will feel lost in a sea of students. My first class was a psychology course with 900 students. Yes, 900. Professors won't know your name. There is little diversity. Your morals and values will be challenged daily living in a college town lol. You might end up graduating with a drinking problem and know several people who will too. You will be fixated on your weight and become very weight conscious.

All that being said, I absolutely love UCSB and don't regret living there for 4 years. I had the worst time of my life and the best time of my life there. UCSB is not for everyone and I know a couple of people who transferred out. Most of them to UC Santa Cruz because that was more their scene. UCSB is a party school and everything you hear about that is true. Yet you're surrounded by very intelligent people who care about their academics and most of them put school first. I was admitted into a competitive grad program for my MBA at a smaller private school, and I absolutely recommend going the smaller school route. I really enjoyed it coming from a school of tens of thousands. Although I wouldn't trade my UCSB experience, I would never allow my 8 month old daughter to attend UCSB when she's older. It's much too liberal.

The environment in Santa Barbara was really great and it was safe. But it was easy to get too used to that luxury, and the culture wasn't turning the corner into brilliance despite plenty of great leaders in the student body and faculty.

Usually when a dynamic leader was at the helm in a club or class, things fell apart for him or her, and understanding why that kept happening again and again was difficult.

UCSB is such a beautiful campus. We came here to attend my nephew's commencement ceremony.

The ceremony was held on the grass area next to the lagoon. It was such a nice backdrop for the ceremony. It was hard paying attention without looking at the view.

I wish we had more time to explore the campus. Maybe on our next visit.

I absolutely adore UCSB! This place has the perfect combination of excellent academics and a gorgeous location right on the beach! Don't believe the stereotype that UCSB is a "party school". Within the last 5-10 years the party scene has greatly dissipated due to increased competition for admission and an extreme emphasis on superior education.

Good school but they always trying to make money off of you. Apartments around that area are so expensive.. they charge for Parking, when you drop a class too late or after a specific date they charge you 3 dollars. They charge you 33$ for being in a science class for every quarter for what gloves and safety glasses really?? And dorms are whole different story. But hey money grows on trees right.

Worst school ever for me, the professors in some sectors are a jokeAlso, watch out for the school misc. expenses for they will wipe you clean if you let them. The financial dept. messed my whole school life up because of the misinformation that many people from many depts. gave me. So, carefully watch your billing statement every quarter while attending here. For e.g. they force you to have their health insurance which costs over $800 a quarter (and the insurance is horrible) along with many other insane fees they will tag you with. I am relieved to be done with this place. Yeah it's a pretty view, but it also smells like sewer and some of the class rooms (that they never show you on tour) are absolutely horrible.

Best four years of my life. Just wish freshmyn would stay out of the roundabouts for the first few weeks. And more professors of color wouldn't hurt. But the community really cares about each other. Best place to go to school
