My son needed to purchase a bike, who is a student at UCSD Staffs in this store has excellent product knowledge and they are honest, also there price is better. Dan, an awesome staff and a person listened to my sons specific needs for a bike and recommended exactly what needed. My son loves the bike. Also there price is better.

Needed service performed on my bike. Later looked online and found the exact same parts for half the price at 3 other shops. Bike was dropped off on a Sunday and was told it should be done by Wednesday and that they would call once it was completed. I called Friday afternoon to see if they had completed the work and was told yes. I arrived at the shop and they asked if I was called to tell me my bike was done. I said I called and they told me it was complete. Fortunately it was. Poor service, slow service, high pricing.

I've been a regular, frequent patron at UC Cyclery since 2010. I know Dave, Steve, John and many of the staff well. They've taken care of my biking needs above/beyond throughout that time; for both routine maintenance/service to complex/vexing bike issues. I can not recommend them enough for purchase, life cycle support of a bike and parts warranty/ support, ditto for supporting a local business. If there are some outlier review scores, I'd say those are few and far between. I've witnessed many, many cases where customers brings their problem purchase from another bike shop that wasn't built well or serviced/repaired correctly to UC Cyclery and earn their future business.

I visited the shop to look for a road bike. My mom and sister were going to pay for the new bike since it was my birthday. I tried 2 bikes and the staff member who was helping me was knowledgeble and professional. However, my visit to the store got little ugly when I told him I was going to order the bike on their website because my sister and my mom were goign to order for me. The moment he heard me it got super awkward. He abruptly said I couldn't order the bike online. I told him I've SEEN the website before and it looked like I could order online. He just repeated I could not order bikes online but he wouldn't say WHY. He tried to explain to me how to do money transfer so I can pay for the bike at the store but I shook my head. He quickly turned around to talk to another customer. I said "thanks anyways" and exit the store but didn't hear back anything from him. The moment he said I couldn't order online I knew he was lying. On the website, I was able to find the same model and I was able to successfully place the item in my cart. The website also had "secure checkout" button and the payment section was working fine. This place insisted on taking the payment at the store but when I refused, they lost interest in me. I am ordering the same bike elsewhere.

Good selection of bikes and I have purchased three bikes overall from them. Only used the mechanic once and would not recommend for service. My last purchase was a high end tarmac that when I got it home noticed it had a frayed rear derailleur cable. Took the bike back and all they did was trim off the hanging ends. I still have a new bike with a frayed cable that they were too cheap to replace. Extremely disappointed. They have lost a returning customer.
