Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UAMS has a very rich and distinguished history. Founded in 1983, only fours years after ABEM sanctioned the creation of Emergency Medicine residency programs, we have been training Emergency Medicine physicians for close to 30 years. UAMS is Arkansas’ only Level 1 Trauma Center.
Our residents enjoy a diversified educational experience including cadaver labs, simulation labs, pediatric helicopter transport, and research. Past residents have gone on to be everything from small town emergency physicians to chairpersons of both academic and private practice emergency departments. Our graduates have become faculty members at many prestigious institutions and among our graduates are several Presidents of the Arkansas chapter of ACEP. The Department of Emergency Medicine remains dedicated not only to creating good physicians, but good leaders in both Emergency Medicine and their communities. Each year the total number of applicants, from both the US and world-wide, to our program continues to increase and Emergency Medicine has become one of the more popular fields of choice among UAMS graduates.

Are we nearing the end of epinephrine in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests? Tonight we took a look at the PARAMEDIC2 Trial in a family-filled Journal Club event. This is the best study to date demonstrating that epi may do more harm than good in this population. #FOAMed #EBM #PARAMEDIC2 #JournalClub #ResidencyLife

During the month of June, the UAMS EM Residency Program hosts a summer preceptorship for upcoming M2s where students have a chance to work in the ED and go to weekly procedural/Sim labs. This past week our residents helped teach these students about intubation and lac repairs! #uamsem #uamsemergencymedicine #UAMS #MedicalSchool #Residency #FutureDoctors #DoctorsofTomorrow

Nothing like a fun getaway to wrap up the year. Just some highlights from the PGY3 retreat this weekend. The pictures don’t do this group justice! #UAMSEM #UAMSEmergencyMedicine
