Food and coffee are good. I like providing animal crackers with the drinks, that's a very nice touch. However, the system seems inefficient having self-seating with a wait staff for a coffee shop environment. It makes it tough on the wait staff to know if people want to be served or not disturbed, and makes it difficult for customers to order when it would be much simpler to order at the counter. Weird hybrid ordering system, but still a great environment.
Good coffee and the breakfast burrito is fantastic. Be advised, they don't have a wait list. It's just first come, first served. This can lead to some weird hovering. But as long as you don't have a large group it isn't too bad. Their large mug of coffee is very large. I didn't care for the Bloody Mary, but that might just be a personal preference.
Anyone who has been here knows what a gem it is. When it's nice, the garage doors open up and the breeze flows through. The staff is excellent and you can drop in for a variety of things: a drink, a coffee, a meal, a snack, dessert or all of the above.
Great coffee shop to spend some time. Great drinks and desserts. Usually pretty crowded with folks in computers/reading but the staff is very friendly and quick with the orders. The earl grey with bourbon is amazing.
Great atmosphere, excellent coffee and related beverages, plus they’re usually served with a side of animal crackers. Can be crowded at times, as many people work from there or use as a study lounge. Fantastic salads and sandwiches as well, plus turns into a bar at night.
One of the coolest coffee hangouts in DC. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and cool, unlike most utilitarian coffee shops that seemingly want you out of their coffee shop ASAP. Buy a croissant, coffee, or mixed drink and hang out a while. (No WiFi on weekends!) Finding a table for a big group is hard, especially in the afternoons. But for a couple, the couches at days perfect and the menu selection ranges from baked goods to salads to full meals. It’s pricey but everything in DC seems to be.
Chill social area. Living room lounge feel. Good pastries and hot cider. Hard to find parking outside. Live music was good. Id go here to get close to a date and chat. Nice place to get some computer work done but not many plugs and not good lighting for studying.
One of my favourite cafes, it's a shame all the others aren't like this one. They serve both caffeine and alcohol. The ambience is amazing and always something cool each night, like live music.
Good place to get coffee late at night. For the first time visitors, just grab any open seat. The staff will come and find you eventually. Chocolate waffles and lavender latte were delicious! Be careful, their coffee drinks are on the sweeter side, I usually ask for it less sweeter or unsweetened.
I love this place. It has my favorite sandwich ever: Linda! However, the prices have gone up and the portions down, so I'm visiting less often :(
Menu is a little too hip for my tastes. Goat cheese quiche was tastey, but small, and I'm more a comfort food guy, so that's on me. Prices are reasonable for smallish portions. Coffee house expectations on the food, which all had great flavor. Coffee is good. Would come back, but not as a regular.
The best atmosphere, the greatest breakfast, and the biggest cups of coffee in DC. The "Violet" is their vegan sandwich and is astoundingly good. All of their employees and patrons are thoroughly cool. You should be one of them.
We sat at the bar and found the food service to be extremely slow. When I inquired about the status of our order, I found the female bartender's demeanor to be dismissive and rude. With this said, my tuna melt was delicious and my daughter's salad was really fresh and tasty.
A very relaxed and chill atmosphere with live music at times. I went there twice and had a great time. Good drink options and friendly staff. If you're in the mood, you can even share the table and make new friends!
Cozy cafe with great pastries and desserts! They also have salads and sandwiches that are okay. Fun seating but not good for huge groups.
#1 all time favorite DC coffee shop due to A+ staff, no-rush service (very relaxed), and best, most diverse seating options. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. And no TVs!
I hate to write this review. I live just down the street from Tryst and have to say I enjoy going there for happy hour. Their food and drink are both definitely good. However, they get one star from me because BOTH TIMES I've gotten lunch to go they have given me SOMEONE ELSE'S ORDER. This second time I even made sure they parroted back my order to me when it was ready. Truly a deterrent from returning or at least getting food there. Maybe I have rotten luck but they'll get a one star from me to wake them up so people don't drop $15 bucks for the wrong sandwich in the future.
Delicious and creative menu with lots of vegetarian options and healthy eats. Busy, but spacious with lots of cozy seating (from tables to couches) so wait time isn't long. Live music and events on weekdays.
First time here. Was very crowded when we got there. Seemed to be very little order on service. We sat at the bar only spot open. People seems to camp out anywhere they can spending hours doing work not necessarily eating or drinking anything. There were a few people taking up way to much room for how busy it was. As far as the food was good. We had lunch, beer, and coffee. Everything tasted good. The bartender was busy did not pay much attention to us, didn't refill my water or ask if I wanted another beer. Some where I would like to head back to if I was in the area.
