This place is really gorgeous. What happened to so many people was not gorgeous, but the structure itself is beautiful. I do like the informative tours they give. I like that some of the staff dress up in uniforms to add a sort of nostalgia touch to the place. I like that the people who own this asylum keep renovating it and using some of their money for educational purposes. They also have a wing set up so you can see the art from patients that stayed in the asylum. They do have a gift shop for shirts and souvenirs you want to take home with you. On the shot glasses it has the dates from when they started construction to the time the asylum officially opened. I do wish they would have had the dates from when they officially opened to the day they officially closed instead. Otherwise I would have picked one up. Other than that I have no complaints or anything negative to say about my time here. Everything was great. Even the people that worked there were super friendly.

Did the 90 minute "4 floor tour". While the up front cost seemed a bit high it was definitely worth the money. The guide was superb, how they managed to remember all the information they impart during the tour I'll never know.
Huge improvement since we first visited a few years back. The restorations are coming along nicely.
Parking is easy and the place is well signposted and easy to find.
Can certainly recommend a visit.

I went here for the 8 hour tour. My boyfriend and along with his brother and sister went to the ghost hunt. We spent the 8 hours walking around and got to visit each floor. Such a interesting place. We had a ghost box and got to talk to Ben. In one room the radiator banged when we entered. It scared us. I went over and lightly touched the radiator to hear what it sounded like and that sound was different from what we heard. and heard the radiator bang loudly when visiting a room. Which was scary. Definitely a place to go.

Great destination! Nice folks running the place. Fascinating history! You have to make a point to come to this facility if you are anywhere near Weston West Virginia! This facility has been here so long that it was originally in the Commonwealth of Virginia serving Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. The stories and history will transport you to a very different time!

This is such an interesting place. There is a lot of history to be learned and beautiful architecture. The ambiance is really unique as well. We were set up here for a BBQ bash and they were doing a lot of tours and had a haunted house. I would recommend going around Halloween as they have a lot of fun things going on. You can also book the place overnight, if you're feeling adventurous.

There needs to be a way to book your tours online. We came from Maine to visit friends and then drove an hour to see this historic site, and upon arrival we were told that the tour we wanted (four floors) was sold out and had to settle for the first floor tour, despite arriving an hour early. If we could've booked ahead before we drove it would've been a much higher review. As it was, they had the flashlight tours that night, so we paid again for the as seen on tv tour and waited out in the rain for another hour for that to begin because the lobby was closed. That tour itself was very cool and Kenny was a wonderful guide. However, we found this shorter tour was better than the first floor tour! This asylum has such a rich history and creepy atmosphere, so it should have a much more efficient process for booking because we really did enjoy the nighttime experience.

Went to the Halloween Ball and had so much fun. The ball area had a live band area(hard Rock) a Karaoke-DJ with dancing area and a outside area with Fire barrels and one food broth. There were 3 Porta Potties in this area. Had to bring your on drinks. There is a Costume contest that some people went all out for or they just liked to dress up. There was a Haunted house and a mobile Trailer with mounted Paintball guns for the Zombie hunt. These were not include in the cost to get into the Ball.

Had an incredible time at the asylum this weekend. We took the paranormal tour with Val, criminally insane tour with Kenny, and the 4 floor historical tour with another gentleman (forgot his name, sorry!) All guides were both professional and fun. Very knowledgeable, kept us engaged throughout the entire tours. The building itself is beautiful. And creepy. We didn't experience anything paranormal, which I admit I'm bummed aboutbut we were only there during the day. A nighttime ghost hunt would turn up all sorts of evidence I am sure. I would recommend visiting TALA to anyone, I am so glad we drove out 4 hours to check it out. Thank you!

Interesting place. Get there early so you make sure to get tickets. There's a lot to see. Give yourself more time to look around than for just the tour that you choose. It's such a sad part of our history. We have come a long way. Even though it was an improvement, it wasn't good.

We took the first floor tour. Fascinating old place with sad history. A lot if it renovated since we were here several years back. The 1920's ward beautifully done! Very vintage.
We also took a van tour of the farm and cemeteries sights. Awesome place! Would recommend! Staff and tour guides were knowledgeable and attentive.

Amazing place- took the Historic Tour and the Criminally Insane tour and I can't wait to go back for the other tours! My husband and I were lucky enough to get Rachel as our tour guide for both (I highly recommend having her as your tour guide, if you can arrange it!). Very, very interesting place.

My husband and I visited Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum for his birthday on May 25, 2017. We live in Illinois. We were the last paranormal tour of the day. It was us and one other super nice, young couple. Our tour guide was great, however, she allowed her 10 year old nephew who was visiting her from out of state, to tagalong the entire tour. This kid just would not shut up. He talked over his aunt and kept interjecting. He completely ruined the entire experience!!!!

We contacted them the next day and let them know about our experience and disappointment. Although they offered free tickets and T-shirts, we explained that due to our living in Illinois and we actually bought T-shirts on our visit, this would not be practical and that perhaps a refund would be more appropriate. We sent three emails all of which have gone unanswered.

This really could have been an awesome experience.

Great time. We did the overnight tour. Definitely quite an experience. Our guide Brandy was awesome as well! Had a lot of useful information as well as some interesting stories. It's a must see in West Virginia. Next time I'm considering doing a private hunt. Brandy also guides some of those.
Only thing I suggest is bring some food as there is a break room to place it in. We did not bring anything, and half way through the hunger and tiredness becsme evident. They did have complementary coffee which was great.

Fantastic place!! Advice you to take to $30 90 minute tour! Staff was great and knowledgeable!! Great museum and some stuff in gift shop to buy. A little pricey for shirts but no worries they are awesome!!
