We moved back to Wisconsin in January of this year. Although we were born and raised on the south side of Milwaukee we moved to Grafton, Wisconsin. I try to either meet a friend or have lunch at least twice a month at the Packing House. I usually order the filet medium rare, bake potato and salad. I have never been disappointed and always look forward to the 25 mile drive. Their service has always been excellent, prompt and courtesy. We have lived in several states over the years and had truly missed the 1950, 60's supper club lunch hour atmosphere.
Great fish fry. Excellent steak. Good drinks. Nice people. Love it. Thanks a lot for choosin us for the 25 dollar gift card for liking your web page.
The restaurant was really nice inside. Upon walking in my husband and I were greeted w/ a live band. We were then seated so far in the back of the restaurant that I could no longer hear the music. Our table was leaning when we sat down. I ordered the wonton mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and the cheese was stiff and warm in temperature. I then ordered a medium well steak that came well done. I was only offered 50% off of the steak. For the price I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for upscale and good food try 5 'o clock steakhouse!
Lovely anniversary dinner. Great steaks! Great service! Judy was a warm, friendly waitress. Reminded me of what it was like going out to eat when I was a child. Enjoyable evening before heading home.
Fantastic service but we were shocked at the bill. 175 with tip. Two drinks hubby , one for me
We both had a petite fillet and hubby ordered a lobster tail add on. The tail was the size of two jumbo shrimp and cost $26.99 extra!!!
I asked for Oscar style for my steak. The crab was watery and tasteless.
Steaks were tender and perfectly cooked but Tiny!
French onion soup fantastic as was the house made peppercorn dressing.
The escargot was way over cooked chewy and oily.
I should have complained but our server was so enthusiastic I felt like it would ruin her day.
We rarely eat out and both confided our disappointment to each other later. At the time did not want to spoil a nice night. Today having serious buyers remorse and continued heartburn from the excessive and oily onion straws that covered 2/3 of the plate.
If you have plenty of discretionary income than a very nice place to go. As I said, the service was exceptional as was the live music. But for the cost, I expected consistent and excellent food quality and instead got Outback Steakhouse.
I eat hear almost every time I'm in Milwaukee. The food is good, the service is great and the atmosphere is somewhat vintage. Comfortable neighborhood vibe It works.
Great place overall! Entertainment food drinks & service. Suzanna Grzanna & partner bands outstanding! Cheer to great memories!
Great experience here. The escargot was wonderful, and the prime rib is excellent- perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. The beef Wellington was also great, but the prime rib really stole the show. Our service was also fabulous. Definitely not cheap, but we were prepared for that and I felt like it was well worth it.
Hi - we love the food, atmosphere & good service at your restaurant. We have been dining there for years, enjoying lunches, dinners & celebrating special occasions. I recently had hip surgery & I am using a walker now while I continue recovering. We parked in the parking lot & I found it to be VERY DANGEROUS for anyone using a walker or crutches. It is in serious need of resurfacing. The blacktop was broken & uneven everywhere. It was very difficult to enter the restaurant. We noticed some beautiful stamped concrete at the main entrance doors. It was very pretty, but not handicapped friendly if you are using a walker or crutches - - stamped concrete is very slippery when it gets wet. It is unfortunate, as we age that sometimes we may need a hip or knee replacement. No one wants to fall as they recover. Please take this advice seriously. Thank you
Wow! Had some time to kill before a flight back home, and we decided to stop at this place for dinner. What a great choice! It did not really look special from the outside, put it was quite a pleasant experience. Very classy ambiance (think white tablecloths, friendly staff, lovely music) and the food was excellent. Large menu-I would recommend the steak.
My husband and I enjoyed our 25th Wedding Anniversary at Sanford and enjoyed the chef's special menu paired with wine. As we entered, we were warmly welcomed by the host. The dinner was truly spectacular: each bite was meticulously prepared and presented. The blending of spices and flavors was unique and refreshing. Service was the best we've experienced in Milwaukee.
Some of the best ribs I've ever had. Great customer service. A real quality joint.
Fish fry is really good, I have enjoyed the steaks there and they have good desserts. The raw veggies they put on the table can go straight to the garbage. We went on a Friday once and they had a nice pleasant jazz group playing.
The place doesn't have to go to far to get my 5*:
(And now my critique:)
the bar program is primarily basic cocktails. They do make a decent old fashioned Whiskey (they list the Wisconsin brandy version of this cocktail). I'd prefer some things that are slightly more imaginative here. it doesn't have to be complicated with egg whites, remove some cheaper whiskeys and add couple nicer ones. The whole Whiskey scene has exploded in the past 20 years nothing is there to represent any of this. The menu looks like it is from 1990.
if they must have veggies at dinner than redo them to be better. The vast majority of the people I eat with say they really didn't like them.
make really good creative and interesting rye bread (maybe with some sea salt please) with the fish fry. If they can make good dessert, spend some effort to make this staple part of the fish fry interesting!
At the end of the day, it is a supper club (decent food with easy going atmosphere), but it doesn't mean that things can't change a little or improve on some basic things.
We were at The Packing House to celebrate my 40th birthday with some friends last night. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was great! Our food was delicious! During dinner, my husband had a medical emergency. I wish I would have asked the name of our server (she is a graduate nurse). She assisted my husband calmly and professionally. The rest of the staff was kind and helpful as well. I am happy to report everything checked out fine for my husband at the ER and we are planning a return to The Packing House soon! Thank you again, we appreciate everything you did for us!
Here we go again. It took 2 years to get back and I don't even need to finish my meal to review this place again. For all you road warriors, this is the place for you. It makes you feel just like home. A bad day has nothing on this place. I have a huge smile on my face being back here again! The best service, the best food. So happy to be back. Keep doing what your doing Packing House. I'll be back before two more years!
