This place is fantastic. Free if you can find a parking spot. But parking in the lot you have to pay for isn't bad either, only ten dollars. With both indoor and outdoor art exhibits there is a ton to see. They were very accommodating and nice about me bringing in my service dog also. They offer free guided tours and also have an app you can download if you want to give yourself a tour! I would go back again. They do have some exhibits that you have to pay for, but the prices are fair and the exhibits are rad. Who doesn't want to see Picasso?

One of the best museums that I have had the opportunity to visit. I went in a Saturday and was surprised that it was not too busy. Great to take children too, for a date night, or just to pass the time alone. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable. Plenty of free tours available for those interested. Was there for about 4 hours and still hardly got half way through.

Truly a hidden treasure in the middle of the country. The Nelson is a first rate art museum with collections that are truly fantastic. The Native American and Asian collections are as good as any I have seen anywhere. Admission is free and the lines are short. If you find yourself in our neck of the woods drop in and see great art from around the world. Make sure to check out the work of Kansas City master Thomas Hart Benton, and the sculpture garden full of Henry Moore pieces as well as our iconic shuttlecocks.

One of my favorite places! I love taking friends here who have never been and see for themselves how great this museum is. It is easy enough to navigate through the different periods and geographic locations. I also love the big open front lawn with a variety of sculptures/statues around the area. Free admission. A wonderful place to explore on a weekend afternoon.

A museum this wonderful should not be free, and yet! With no cost of admission, you can spend hours or minutes in this art museum and have a marvelous time no matter what. They have a wide array of artists and art movements in their collection; everything is curated well and laid out in a manner that leads the eye to the next room and gives each piece plenty of room to breathe. I could come here every time I visit Kansas City and still enjoy it just as much as the first time.

The Nelson grounds are breathtaking. I think it’s the most beautiful place in Kansas City. The museum is filled with ancient and modern art. I weekly visit the museum just to walk in a beautiful place. The exhibits are filled with rich history and art that you feel transfixed into another time momentarily. My favorite thing to do in the city.

What's not to love about this place!!! This is a family trip, a trip just for Mommy, a girl's day out trip. There is so much to see, they always have events going that are super fun and free to the public. I Love this museum!!!! The atmosphere is spectacular! The artwork is moving. The children and I learn something and gain something new with every visit.

One of my favorite places in Kansas City! Free admission, although some exhibits do cost money, typically not very much though. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will answer just about any question that you have regarding art or anything pertaining to the facility or grounds. Parking is $10, but it's free for the first 30 minutes. You can save yourself a little bit of money and park on the street if you can find a spot. It's also a really great place for kids of all ages. Every weekend they have art workshops for the kids and kids at heart.

This has to be one of the best museums in the world. I visited last Saturday, September 16, 2017, and the staff were polite, friendly and very knowledgeable. The beautiful African American lady at the entrance was so wonderful and welcomed us with open arms! The collection was stunning! I live in Seattle and SAM is like a little miniature museum compared to this museum. The food was delicious and I was thinking that I am having lunch in Italy. The surrounding was so beautiful. Thank you for this spectacular experience. Something that I will never forget. Thank you for the hospitality and friendliness and most of all "you" present Kansas City well and proud!

OMG there displays were breathtaking. You will not finish all the museum in one tour. They have displays, paintings, alleys to take wonderful picks at. It's amazing. I took my grown kids and they had fun, reading the information about the artist or why certain items were placed in each painting. If you are into art appreciation, you'll love it!

First off, FREE admission. For the museum, we only had time to go through the Egyptian/Roman/Greek section, but it was a pretty darn good section to see. The plaques also had a great amount of information that made each exhibit more worthwhile. We enjoyed some respite in the courtyard Cafe, very pleasant.

This is one of my favorite places in Kansas City to go. It's a place to go for a nice peaceful stroll around when the weather isn't the best and it's also a great place to look at priceless pieces of human progress.

Do yourself a favor, visit and donate to the museum.

Sometimes it feels as if your followed but the employees make the same rounds you doroom to room and your inches from billions of dollars in art you didn't pay to see. Speaking to the employees and treating them as humans sure helps in most situations.
Being asked to back up or to keep kids away is a given In fine art galleries and museums. Many places don't let you get as close to the art like the Nelson and yes some places don't seem to care who touched the 500 year old pictures.

Very nice museum. I spent over 2 hours here admiring the art on my trip and I would love to go back again. There is art for everyone. Very interesting to read the history behind a lot of the artifacts in the museum. You cannot beat free admission either. We were glad to leave a donation on our way out.
