    Fact #23: Do you ever feel as though you always have migraines as the weather changes? Well you are not alone. According to Vincent Martin, M.D., professor of medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, about 30% of people who get migraines are sensitive to changing weather. In addition, in one of his studies he found that stormy weather can make people 28% more likely to have a migraine. If this posting describes you, come in and see Dr. Harris, he may be able to help!

    Fact #22: In a study that was published in the journal, "Headache", it was shown that keeping a regular bedtime, not taking naps during the day, and turning off the TV before going to bed can help to reduce the intensity and frequency of migraine attacks after six weeks.

    Fact #21: The focus of today’s post is going to be on cluster headaches. These types of headaches are considered rare and are more commonly found in men. The main symptom associated with cluster headaches is pain concentrated around the eyes. These headaches can occur a couple of times a day, could last for weeks or sometimes even months. Unfortunately the exact cause of this type of headache is currently still unknown; however, Dr. Harris’ headache treatments might help with the pain associated with cluster headaches.     Fact #20: Today’s fact focuses on migraines specifically. These types of headaches often have to do with genetics. Common symptoms can include being sensitive to light and sound as well as experiencing nausea during an episode. For women, migraine attacks are more likely to come during a menstrual cycle because this is a time when estrogen levels are low. However, after going through Dr. Harris’ migraine and headache treatments, the number and severity of migraines could be d...iminished.     After some delay, here is another fact for you about headaches.

    Fact #19: If you suffer from headaches located on both sides of the head, across your forehead, temples, or the back of your head and neck, you might be experiencing tension headaches. These could be caused by changes in your neurotransmitters (brain chemicals).

    Fact #18: Do you ever experience headaches that are accompanied by either pain or pressure in the cheeks and forehead, or swelling in the sinuses? This could be a sinus headache. However, please be aware that many times people believe they have sinus headaches but really are suffering from migraines. With that said, in these situations, taking a decongestant might make matters worse. If you are not sure what to do about your headaches, come in speak to Dr. Harris to see if our therapies can help you!     Fact #17: If you are the type of person that suffers from headaches as soon as you wake up, or headaches that wake you up in the middle of the night, try eating a snack before bed. This will help to prevent a migraine the next day. However, make sure to brush your teeth after eating!

    Fact #16: Did you know that working out can help to relieve stress, which can be a migraine trigger for some people? If this applies to you, consider building aerobic exercise into your daily schedule to prevent headache episodes. Even working out as little as three times a week, has been shown to reduce the number of migraine attacks, according to a study done in 2011.

    Fact #15: Did you know that food additives might be a trigger for headaches? Food additive-induced headache symptoms begin within 20-25 minutes after consuming food containing additives. These symptoms can include pressure in the chest, tightening and pressure in the face, burning sensation in the chest, neck and shoulders, facial flushing, dizziness, headache pain across the front or sides of the head, and abdominal discomfort.

    We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! Here is fact #14 for all of you. Did you know that some migraine sufferers may be sensitive to Tyramine-containing foods? Tyramine is formed from the breakdown of protein in foods that age, such as aged cheeses. Some of these cheeses that have high levels of Tyramine include: blue cheese, brie, cheddar, stilton, feta, gorgonzola, mozzarella, Muenster, parmesan, Swiss, and processed cheese.

    On another note, we notice that the number of likes for this page is growing, but we know there are still so many people out there that we would like to reach. With that said, please spread the word to your friends and family and get them to like our page!!
