Best museum in Houston.
The Renzo Piano-designed museum, its satellite buildings, and the Rothko Chapel, are so integral to Houston's identity that it's hard to believe that the institution is only 25 years old.
If art is more your speed, then you shouldn’t miss The Menil Collection, a free museum that is surely one of the best art museums in America. You can see Picasso, Warhol, McGrit, and many more.
SEO Specialist Lauren claims it's more artsy than geeky, but being a geek about art is okay by us. Come here for the free admission and great modern art exhibits.
Este edificio diseñado por al arquitecto Renzo Piano se inspiró en los Kibbutz Israelíes que permiten el paso de la luz y mantienen una temperatura interior baja protegiendo las obras de arte =D
Absolute gem of a gallery. Expertly maintained and fantastic staff with an ever changing line up of exhibits. Also it's free! Please don't miss while visiting Montrose.
I feel like I'm being stalked by security guards. This place has more security then the MET in NYC
Free parking off of Alabama!
Keep your eyes open. When celebs come to Houston, they nearly always stop by the Menil. We've spotted Gwyneth Paltrow, Francis Ford Coppola and Andre Leon Talley.
See the byzantine frescoes before they ship them back to Cyprus!!
Check out the Surrealism exhibit... they have lots of Magritte, my favorite.
Free admission. Many exhibits. No photography allowed indoors
One of the most incredible collections of modern art and antiquities in the country. Start in the stunning Cy Twombly Gallery and follow through to the Byzantine artifacts and paintings.
Donate money to the Menil, even if it's just a dollar.
Come during the daylight, museum lit by natural sunlight through transparent roof makes the artwork lovely (and they have lights for at night too)
Always free (!), the collection houses works by Picasso, Warhol, Magritte, and Dali, as well as ancient artifacts from cultures all over the world. Powered by ParentsConnect.com
View the Menil Collection. Look for the gray lightbulb on a cement block.
The Menil and the park across the street are ideal places to have a picnic on a beautiful day.
Just a short walk away are the Rothko Chapel and the Flavin Installation, both worthwhile stops, especially the Chapel.
