One of the highest quality museums I’ve ever visited. Great friendly and knowledgeable staff and interactive and informative exhibits. We love this place!

There is a fee to visit the museum but it is well worth it! Make sure to give a couple of hours to see all the exhibits as there are lots of them! Of note is that the recovered turret of the USA Civil War ironclad ship, USS Monitor is located here and can be viewed from the preservation tank. However, the realistic replicas of the Monitor turret are much more pleasing to look at. There are many model boat displays and an on site model boat maker available. If interested in Maritime history and in the area, highly recommend paying a visit!

No other museum has parts of the famous Civil War Iron Clad Monitor and allows you to touch a piece of the Monitor's hull. To be able to see the remains of one of two vessels that tangibly changed naval construction, tactics and modern warfare gives me chills. A life sized metal model of the Monitor you can walk on and comprehensive exhibits of ancient and modern vessels merely scratches the surface of the museum's offering. The 3D IMAX is deceptive in its simplicity, but provides the best 3D experience that I've come across for the price. The staff is professional, friendly and knowledgeable. And as the icing on the cake parking is free, close and easy to get in and out of. Children are welcome and the museum has much to offer the upcoming generations.

Allow plenty of time for this amazing museum! There is so much to see, and it's laid out very well. Of course seeing the actual turret of the Monitor (even during restoration) is incredible. One of the last things to see is the international small craft, and it's terrific!

This museum is really well done. It's also much larger than it seems, so make sure you have a good amount of time to visit each section! I really loved how they place reenactors throughout the museum to interact with visitors.

Great exhibit on the Monitor and Merrimac. Lots of neat Naval History. a few kid things, but not overly young kid friendly.

Wow! All of the exhibits are displayed in such a way that one's attention is held. Very creative. So exciting to see that active research & recovery go on on-site.

If you enjoy history and nautical finds and info, this is the place to come. $1 through the end of August. The movie they present is amazing and informative regarding our oceans eco-system. A must see. The turret from the USS Monitor is reason enough to come to the museum. Although most are not fortunate enough to see it without beind submerged in water to preserve it, just being in the presence of an actual part of our a ship in one of our wars gives a history buff goose bumps. They have items om display from the monitor that have been restored that you can see. An awesome place to spend a day. (They have a very good club sandwich at small restaurant inside)

Had a wonderful time. Had in-depth conversations with two docents who were both incredibly gracious in explaining very technical information to people who know absolutely nothing about boats or sailing. The Oracle exhibit was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed the shed with the small boats from all over the world. I highly recommend this museum to anyone.

What a great place. There were exciting artifacts and learning about the history was outstanding. The price for entry was a pleasant surprise $1. I will definitely recommend others to go. One of the receptionists was very helpful and had great customer service. One of the Security Guards was very knowledgeable and showed us where the turret was located.

Great museum! The Ironclad exhibit is one of the best I have experienced. I spent almost 4 hours working my way through that section. Overall, it is just a great place to visit and spend day even if you are not a history buff.

A superb museum for naval history fans. The international small craft center has some particularly interesting items in its collection. And what with having large portions of the Monitor under restoration on site, the exhibits on the history of the early ironclads is outstanding.

Add I type this it is 1$a person admission for all of August 2016! There is a great park out side for kids to play on wooden ships and patents can sit in the shade. Loved the museum itself and could see myself getting lost for hours. Kid friendly through out with large models and interactive exhibits intermingled. Lived the model ship room with its impressive collection. There is also a convention room for hosting events. We will have to try the trails next time as they looked serene. Friendly staff and lots to do making return trips a must

Lots and lots of history! While the museum is great, I would say go without your little kids. We went and there's just nothing much for kids. They have a small section the kids can play in and they did like that. I think it would have been great to be able to go and just take your time reading.

I took advantage of the $1 admission price during August. I love history and everything I've seen was a delight. From ancient times to modern times. I didn't realize how large the museum was. Lots and lots of exhibits. Thinking I was done, I was about to leave but looked at the map and I almost missed out on some parts of the museum. Well worth the walking, time, and visit.
