Beautiful old buildings. Eclectic bands. Horrible acoustics.

It has been a few years since I've seen a show here and not much has improved. The acoustics are horrible, it gets ridiculously hot inside and the rules which seem to fade as the show continues aren't the most friendly for the attendees. The lighting person at the beginning did not know how to do their job, sending some of the big spotlights directly into the audience, fortunately that improved quickly and the lighting enhanced the show. Good acts in a bad venue. Aesthetically pleasing venue though.

Decent place not as big as the pictures make it look but was fine cus the show we saw wasn't sold out so ok leg room current staff did seem a bit annoyed but no big problems that I saw be prepared for a pat down on entry don't worry about the rules on their website especially for the hip hop shows that say no shorts no cameras button up shirt required no sports or gang attire. If they'll let a bunch of juggalos (fbi classified "gang") spray dozens of bottles of root beer faygo completely soaking the place with stage diving and weed smokers in they will let you too

Worst experience ever going to see live music there. The security staff was abusive, rough handled me and threw me out in the middle of the first song! Here's what happened. Four of us, two couples got our first drink and proceeded to watch the band, my girlfriend and I went down to VIP section, as we paid extra for them. The security guard told us we couldn't bring drinks in and told me I needed to leave it. We did. Then we returned to dance, as we were dancingsercutity came from up behind me and pulled me by my shoulder telling me to leave. My girlfriend asked why, as did I. Then another security guard came and pulled my arms behind my back like he was cuffing me?!?!
I started pulling out of the death hold stating get your hands off me as I continued to question WHAT was happening and WHY they were hassling me and telling me to GET OUT! Totally baffled and feeling pretty harassed and manhandled. My boyfriend and his friend came to me and started pulling three security guards off of me, trying to ascertain the same info, "what the hell is happening?!" My girlfriend, once we were thrown outside asked one last timewhy are you doing this, and the female security guard lied and said I was throwing punching at the guard!!! I'm super shocked, upset and baffled by this experience. I will be contacting management and filing a complaint. Completely unjustified and abusive treatment. By the way, we are four 50 year old professionals who were out to enjoy a great evening. What a busy! We took our good time to a local bar where we continued to dance and enjoy ourselveswithout harassment!

Years ago I lived on Poli St. and have seen BB King, Greg Allman, KD Lang and Pato Bonton, and even Randy Newman@ the Ventura Theater! Granted, it all happened in the 1980's. I am just checking in to see if they still offer good (2nd tier) entertainment! I also used to hangout at the San Susi bar and my favorite bar in the US, the Bombay Bar and grill!

A beautiful, classic venue. Concert fees are expensive, but it's for maintenance of the historic building. The acts are getting better and better and shows sell out!

I really loved this venue. There is plenty of free street parking and the tiered floor levels make it easy to see without having to be in the pit since I am past my pit years. Great feel inside and acoustics were good.

Low ticket prices, small venue allows you to get close to performers. Sound system is adequate. Very diverse, friendly crowd. Ignore the decrepit decor and enjoy yourself. Drink prices pretty high, so drink in one of the many downtown bars before the show, if that's your thing.
Free on-street parking after 9PM. Parking garage about a block away if you'd rather pay.response / report this review
