Fantastic property, well appointed throughout the facility, clean rooms, great food, and a very friendly staff. Even the water pressure and the Wi-Fi were better than most. If you need a place to stay in Cedar Rapids, I highly recommend.
I attended the 33rd Annual and final HIS Women Seminar with speaker Allison Allen and musician Todd Agnew in the ballroom/convention area. It was a nice set up for nearly 500 women to come together and celebrate in God's plan for our lives. We were served lunch and the salad was good, but they didn't give us enough dressing so that everyone could have some. They also didn't gibe enough bread for each table. There were 2 types of dessert, but you couldn't choose which one you got, it was just given at random. They could have been a little more organized (like having 2-3 workers for a section). The only other concern was that, despite turning the men's restrooms into women's rooms for the event, there were lines too long to get to go during breaks. I really liked the atrium area. Its beautiful!
The Hotel at Kirkwood was an amazing location for the conference that i attended! The staff was all amazingly professional and welcoming and while they had to change the setting of our area multiple thinness it took less than 10 minutes (10 minutes tho change one HUGE meeting space into the smaller spaces is phenominal and ive never seen such efficiency). The good provided was delicious and presented beautifully as well. The Hotel at Kirkwood rally hosted an amazing conference.
Nice hotel with a really friendly staff. Seems like they would bend over backwards to help. The room is nicely appointed, well sized, and the bed is comfortable. The style of decor seems a little odd. Cherry doesn't seem to be very commonly used anymore but it is everywhere in the room. The bathroom is beautiful, large, and well laid out. I was told by other patrons that the restaurant has great food. Keep in mind that there is NOTHING around the property other than the college and I mean NOTHING!!! That would usually get me to remove a star but they told me that they would take me anywhere within a 20 mile radius what!!! I thought I misheard the driver but she repeated it. That's a distance record for any hotel I've stayed at. So you can pretty much get anywhere needed withing 20 miles so the 5th star stays.
I had the chance to have a nice lunch at the restaurant in The Hotel. All of the staff were extremely friendly and in good spirits, especially Mikayla. I got the BLT with french fries and a slice of pumpkin cheesecake, which were all great, while my date got the best grilled cheese we've ever had. Great experience overall, would recommend to anyone.
apparently (per prior reviews) the Hotel at Kirkwood Center cannot handle high-capacity booking periods. a block was held for a wedding this coming weekend, and again, weekend of a big football game, rooms (that were booked months ago) were revoked last minute (within the last week) for both my family and others. Luckily, the manager handled it by finding other rooms but this overbooking and handling visiting football teams need to be handled better with NOTICE ESPECIALLY TO A WEDDING BLOCK. I would think the previous error would have prevented this. At least a few weeks notice and acknowledgement of the error would have helped, rather than the day before the stay. I understand that errors happen and acknowledge that management handled it OK for the current situation, but it could have been easily prevented.
The Hotel at Kirkwood Center is the best hotel in Eastern Iowa. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms are great. I try to stay there when I'm in Cedar Rapids. Sometimes they sell out because the hotel is attached to the Kirkwood Center so plan accordingly. A great place for meetings and events. The restaurant and bar are top notch. The in-room dining is great, too.
If you're going to lie to your customers you better have your story together. Hotel staff called and told me on the day of my arrival that there "was something wrong with a room" so they couldn't host us. When I asked what was wrong with the room, I got a long pause and then a lot of mumbling and stumbling. I confronted the staff with my theory that they were kicking us out because they overbooked on a University of Iowa home football weekend. She didn't even argue it.
All I wanted was one night in an upscale hotel bed and no baby crying. I wanted it so bad I booked the occasion in May. Nearly five months of anticipation were crushed.
The property is lovely. They booked us at another hotel (not nearly as nice). If not for these two things, I would have given them one star for this mess.
The Hotel is an absolutely beautiful place. The rooms are beautifully furnished with comfortable beds. The cafeteria is also beautiful with delicious food and good service. The staff is efficient and very kind. The whole place is very elegant and our stay was fabulous!
I chose The Hotel at Kirkwood on the recommendation of a previous guest. Good choice! The front desk staff was gracious and professional, listening carefully and offering relevant, thoughtful information. The restaurant staff was every bit as attentive and eager to provide a first-rate dining experience, even customizing one of the chef's signature entrees to suit my taste. I couldn't be happier! I have found my new home-away-from-home in Cedar Rapids at The Hotel at Kirkwood. See you again soon!
Attended a training class for specific team skills set up by my employer. The food was good, very clean, very nicely set up, and the staff was great. Highly recommend for professional functions, but I have no idea how much it costs to reserve space.
Cleanest hotel ever stayed in! Friendly staff! Decor was modern, large windows in room. Outdoor areas clean and beautiful, slept amazing! Peaceful and quiet didn't hear a thing through the night!
Our room was very clean, with very nice features including a large TV, contact-less card key locks, and electronic do not disturb light/indicator. When we checked in the AC wasn't kicking on, but after calling the front desk at 4:30 AM they quickly came up, reset the AC to fix the issue, and brought us a fan to help cool down while the AC came back up. We also received a voucher for free breakfast for being AAA members at the hotel restaurant. The food was very very good, though I'm not sure that I would be willing to pay $40 for breakfast for two people if we hasn't gotten the breakfast for free.
I've only eaten at their restaurant, but the food is great. It is a bit on the pricier side, but definitely a great place to bring a date. The staff are always very friendly and pleasant, and the hotel looks nice. If you ask, they'll even take you on a tour, showing you the rooms, classrooms, and reception halls. A great place to spend the evening.
Beautiful place. They treat their guests very well. Went to several company events held here. Delicious food. Clean. Spacious. Wonderful.
This has to be the best hotel experience i've ever had. Stayed here for a week earlier this year when the town was flooded. The staff was amazing even though the city was in a state of emergency.
Great service and nice amenities.
If I ever go back to Cidar Rapids I will be staying here again.
Only thing id prefer to be different is bigger ice buckets (two 12 oz cans of soda and there's barely room for any ice)
We attended the passport dinner to Ireland. The ambience was lovely, we were treated very well and respectfully upon arrival and did not have to wait to be seated.
The drinks are quite overpriced, but the sage peppercorn was delightful - the size of the glass was much smaller than a regular martini glass - considering price and portion i did not order another. Had to ask three times to have my water glass filled. Our server team was a bit awkward, unable to answer one question and unable to pronounce one of the spices in the potato dish. At the end the male server was a bit too chatty for us as we were hoping for an intimate experience.
Overall the dishes that were good were excellent, the ones that weren't aren't worth a return trip. Lovely place, creative meals, glad they're using local ingredients and growing then on campus, but a bit more professionalism in the staff and taking another look at the exorbitant drink prices might bring people like us back and give a five rather than four star rating.
Accommodations were amazing.
Our business trip put us there in November without reservations and was very surprised to get room availability with our late in the evening arrival. The suite was extremely clean, very well appointed with highend amenities. The cuisine at the restaurant was a surprise also. Gourmet quality dishes at below 5 star prices.
Overall an extremely pleasant surprise in the middle of a cornfield.
Had breakfast there and the place was fantastic. Really good food, and the staff were all very helpful and pleasant. We were even able to get a tour of the entire facility including the ballrooms and the different rooms they offer to guests. We also learned about some cool opportunities to do some baking classes and stay overnight during the year at a reduced rate that I am sure we will be taking advantage of. 10/10 would go again.
