Good price, nice hotel for families. Only downside is that all rooms have two twin beds, no king/queen available.
Cheap and cheerful, walking distance to town. Rooms were clean and comfortable if not the most modern. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place to stay if you want to walk downtown be able to have a few drinks and not have to worry about driving
This is the best value in Williamsburg, dated but well kept. Its location is great and the free breakfast is the best we have ever had at any hotel. When we stayed there during Illuminations, we were able to leave our car and walk to any part of town. It is close to the visitors center and also close to the Henry street bus station. There is no need to find a newer fancy hotel when I spend most of my stay seeing the historic area anyway. Besides, I like the atmosphere of the place.
We always try to stay there when we visit.
The staff was very professional and efficient. However, this is a older hotel that is need of updating and remodeling. It is the most affordable of the CW properties and the facility provides clean rooms with no frills. In the off season you are paying Best Western prices for a Motel 6 quality facility. During tourist season you are paying a lot more for it than you should. It conveniently located close to the historic area and Amtrak station. A sparce continental breakfast is provided. Also...the lights in the rooms take a min or two to warm up to full brightness.
Governor's Inn was certainly better than anticipated, but still about what you pay for. Don't expect too much from the breakfast or the like, but the rooms are clean, presentable, and comfortable--the outside facade thankfully doesn't match the inside. Located beside the train tracks, but didn't hear the trains at all. Overall, would probably recommend for someone seeking an affordable place to stay near Colonial Williamsburg.
I love this place! We stayed at several hotels in Williamsburg and this is one of my favorites. The front desk people are so kind. The breakfast was good and the coffee was hot. Great location too! Just a couple minutes from Colonial Williamsburg.
Pros: The staff was professional and parking was plentiful. The pillows were real comfy. Great location to Colonial Williamsburg. Cons: Room had that off putting motel smell (chemical "fragrance" mixed with years of funk). The TV remote was missing, front desk said they didn't have another. An electrical outlet had a bad drywall putty repair, avoided using it. The free breakfast had no bacon or any meat. The OJ seemed more like "orange drink". Top blanket comforter smelled faintly of urine. They seemed clean though, perhaps they need to use more detergent.
I enjoyed our stay, and they had a shuttle to take us to Busch Gardens so we saved money on parking.
The bed was a little harder, but wasn't bad. The A.C. worked great, there was no terrible smells, no bugs, the staff was great. The breakfast was great too. Consisted of Bagels, waffles, all types of cereal, the best O.J., Apple juice, fruit, donuts, coffee. I'd stay again.
So much for the price! Williamsburg tickets, breakfast, free mugs! It's a no frills place but it's clean and gets the job done 10 fold. Loved loved loved our stay. Can't rave enough.
governors inn was well kept clean and the staff was nothing but helpful. front desk employees were amazing and the pool helped keep my family and I entertained.
9 family members biked from Richmond to Williamsburg & stayed at the Governors Inn. The rooms were reasonably priced & within walking distance to all local activities. The staff was very friendly & rooms were clean. We would definitely stay there again
Super friendly staff and a clean room. The free breakfast was great every day. We were told the pool was open but it was not. Given the shaded location of the pool between buildings, I would only open it in the hotter weather too. However you can use the outdoor pool at the sister hotel (Woodlands) and the drive is very short. That pool is heated, saltwater, and worth checking out. There is also a kiddie area with a lot of sprinklers and stuff at the Woodlands pool. The Governor's Inn is so close to the Merchant Square side of Colonial Williamsburg you can walk there in minutes. Plus the drive to Busch Gardens is really short. We loved the location. The place was packed too. Almost every room and parking spot was filled and we did not have one problem with anyone.
The only issue was the AC unit. The room would get really cold and then the unit would kick off. Then the room would get very warm before it would kick on again. Plus it was noisy enough to wake me up once or twice when it did kick back on. Sometimes you had to turn it off and on to get it working again. That is my only complaint. I spent 4 days there and I'll stay there again anytime.
Also, another reviewer mentioned a basketball court. There is not one on premises. There is one about a block away but we were not sure if it was a public or private court because of the location.
No frills, simple inn that happens to be attached to Colonial Williamsburg, so you can get discounts and such for staying there. It was clean. There's a pool but it wasn't open when we were there in the off season. Ask the rooms are two double beds which may matter to you. The walls are also a little thin (We could hear the neighbor's TV clear enough to understand it). Super friendly desk staff. Good for the price in that town.
