Stromberg’s was the original name of the restaurant which originated in 1929 as a takeout window on the mouth of the Salem Beverly Bridge. It became a quick success with the constant traffic getting stuck on the bridge that had to open for any boating traffic. With the rise of their success, the Stromberg’s opened two new locations at the Salem Willows and Dane street beach in Beverly. The original structure on Bridge Street was expanded to a full service restaurant that gave a new approach of dining in instead of merely takeout.

After forty years of running a successful seafood restaurant & takeout chain, The Stromberg’s sold their bridge street business as well as the rights to the family name “Stromberg” to the current owner’s the Kastrinakis family. Although the Kastrinakis family stuck to the same concept of fresh, affordable seafood, they had innovative ideas. With these ideas they turned the back yard into the patio that holds many events and entertainment to this day. The deck was expanded for diners not to just be able to sit on benches to enjoy the view, but to be able to fully dine at a table Oceanside.

Years past, and the parents of the Kastrinakis family began to want to pass the torch to their children. With two uninterested in the business, Peter Kastrinakis a graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s in Business Science, came to own the restaurant. Peter felt with times changing it was time to bring a new concept to the building. With this idea Peter shut the doors to completely renovate the inside and out, expanding the deck to wrap around the entire building, having a full service bar outside on the patio with full service dining, making the night life scene with music, and putting docks in the water for boat access.

Wow! All of these new concepts, a new menu with a professional Chef, looks like the restaurant needs a new name! This is the part of the story where the classic Stromberg’s becomes a new establishment that may have a new name, but still carries the tradition that started all of those years ago; Fresh affordable seafood with an ocean view. Now as The Black Lobster @ Stromberg’s Cove we still offer the same concept with much, much more. Outdoor dining on the patio or deck with an ocean view, a vast menu of seafood with a modern twist, a fabulous night life and catering offered on and off premise.
