Amazing place, but you pay for it
Simply amazing food. We were visiting the area from Manhattan. Nice place to sit outside under the trees, by the stream, but even better was the food. I am vegan so there was tofu soba noodle for me and my boyfriend was happy camper with filet mignon and ice cream cake dessert. Delicious!
Sat nite 7:15 reservation for 8 people: the food was good, but the experience was marred by an extremely long wait between appetizer and entree (>45 min) and the attitude of the mgmt. When we inquired after our main course, she answered that they were a full house that night and it was not unusual to wait so long. We were surrounded by empty tables in our section of the diningroom. She didn't seem to understand that an apology or small comp goes a long way to making a customer feel valued. In the end, coffee and dessert were comped, but she had already set the tone. Food was quite good; dessert selection a little lackluster.
Had a reservation to eat before a show next door. Glad I did because there were no openings. Anyway, ordered one of their special drinks, the Bearsville: Vodka, St. Germain, Fresh lemon juice and Agave syrup, with a cucumber slice. A bit tart and delicious. I ordered the New York Strip with garlic mashed. While the wait was a bit longer than I expected, the cut of meat was absolutely phenomenal. Easily one the of the top 5 steaks I've had. Cooked perfectly! Wife had the Citrus lime BBQ salmon, also delicious. No complaints. Definitely worth a try.
Wait staff is a little young and pretentious. Listening to them complain for 45 minutes about their tips kind of sucked the ambiance out Of the place.
Great food and great views! Staff was excellent
The waitstaff was engaging and attentive, and the food was excellent. The place itself is beautiful, as the restaurant is situated above a stream and the whole side of the restaurant facing it was floor to ceiling windows. Even the other customers were friendly and excited about the food. The hostess was the worst thing about the place as she was unfriendly and cold. They would do better to hire a person who exudes warmth and seems more welcoming.
The food and service is EXCELLENT well worth a visit closed Tuesday's
Best restaurant Woodstock, so glad Eric is the chef again.
Best food, music, service, & atmosphere!
Had a nice little breakfast
I've been coming here for years but think they've made some bad decisions recently: the drink and food portions are smaller, while the prices are higher. the cocktail glasses are smaller, and while we were given the shakers with our cocktails, they only had ice in them, so this was an empty gesture. don't short me on my drink while charging more. the steaks are smaller, too, but the price has gone up. also, GET THE TV OUT OF THE BAR! this is dumb. it makes the place feel like a tgi fridays with very high prices. or maybe a place in NJ. be who you are: a restaurant with great food and solid cocktails. people come here to talk, not stare at a tv. this is not a sports bar. it's embarrassing. stop it!
I have never had a bad experience at Bear Cafe. The food is almost always very excellent, mostly slightly above average. The service always friendly.
The freshly made desserts are very tempting each time out.
The atmosphere comforting and relaxing.
Expensive, yes, but a nice treat once in awhile.
