Alliance for Bloomfield’s Children – Update- May 15, 2013

The Alliance for Bloomfield’s Children recently completed several steps toward development of a community plan. Guided by the results statement—“All Bloomfield children, birth to eight, are healthy, educated, nurtured and surrounded by opportunities”—committee members gathered data relevant to the current health, education and nurturing of these children. They began to analyze the data, determining strengths and weaknesses, and then, to consider realistic strategies to address identified needs. Establishing measures to evaluate strategies would also be part of the ongoing and ever-evolving plan. Three committees of Alliance members worked with diligence. Their contribution to this work is commendable and we are grateful to them for their sustained commitment to early childhood in Bloomfield. It matters!

During April, the Executive Committee of the Alliance evaluated the Alliance’s progress to date, including the work of the committees and the level of sustained engagement by parents and other key community members. Following a two-day retreat, the Executive Committee decided on a plan that will best fit our continued work in the community and ensure the Alliance’s strength as a resource for parents, the school district, town departments and elected officials. Toward this end, we seek to also maximize community and family engagement in the interest of children, birth to age 8.

We will be winding down our planning phase, and as of July 1, 2013, we will select the strategies and/or activities of focus for the coming year. We will share more details gleaned from the work to date and the plans, going forward. We are requesting continued support form the Graustein Memorial Fund and encourage your continued involvement in whatever capacity works for you—volunteer, constructive critic, strategic partner, supporter.
