Great place to watch birds!
Fishing Battery Island is a national wildlife refuge so you can't technically be "on" the island. But all the beach up to the mean high tide line is not considered part of the island and you are free to enjoy. Only accessible by boat, this island is a little bit of freedom left in a highly regulated world! All you need is a boat, from cruiser to kayak and you can beach it or anchor it and enjoy the water, wildlife, boaters, and beach. No one to tell you how many, or when, or that you can't bring your dog, or that you can't grill on the beach. It's all pure, unregulated fun if you stay below the high tide line. Your only worry in the world is whether "the tide's gonna reach my chair" or that the day won't last long enough.
A terrific family placebut now I've let the secret out! See you next summer!
This is my weekend home
Great place to anchor and relax.
Good place to go by boat. Lots of boats on the weekends. Police patrol and fine people on the island past the signs on the beach.
It's closed to the public. There's an eagle nest in the dilapidated lighthouse. Bring a telephoto lens, and you may be able to capture some good photos.
