Nice staff. Quiet place. Like the short ride to Mountain Gate restaurant. I would stay here again.
Not impressed with this establishment or how it is run. Came because of fair rates and having no power at home for 2 days with a repair date 2 days out. Booked one night and had a fast check-in with Sierra. That was the first and last positive interaction between staff and myself. My boyfriend and I slowly discovered many problems in the room. The toilet was clogged (given a plunger but not asked if we needed help), ripped shower curtain liner, dirty tub/bathroom, 3 burn holes in comforter, 2 light bulbs missing, broken coffee maker, and to top it off the window was broken with no lock.
Because of the rates and still no power at home, we decided to stay 1 additional night. I was told the room we were in was booked for the next night. Went onto the Expedia website and booked a king suite just as the one we were currently in. Called down to the front desk to inquire about getting into our new room. We were told we could have our same room but pay an early check-in fee. Magically our same room became available?!
Asked if we could have a late check-out and was told no. Pressed the lobby attendant to contact her manager as I was confused since the website clearly said late check-out available. I was then told our room was yet again booked for the next day and needed to be cleaned for a VIP member who always requests this room. Why would a hotel put a VIP in a sub-standard room? This comment made us feel like the next customer was more important to please than us. We paid for a room because of necessity, home being out of power. When I told staff this there was no sympathy. She included that the website does indeed say they offer a late check-out but the amount of time is not specified. All the manager was willing to spare was 30 minutes.
The hotel staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. And the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a great place to stay!
Very clean and staff friendly and very helpful.Motel is very well located. Easy access to route 15 so easy to get just about everything
Nice owner/manager. But place is run down.
Very clean and quiet. All the staff was very friendly especially Colleen. I assumed she was the front desk manager and extremely surprised/disappointed to learn that she was not! She was beyond very helpful and friendly. She went above and beyond to get answers to a couple of questions that I had. I have so far enjoyed my stay here at the Super 8 in Thurmont and will definitely stay here again as well as recommend them to others needing a fantastic place to stay!!
For what it is and for a one night stay, the hotel was nice. Yes, the sheets and blankets were thin but it served its purpose. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast had limited options so I recommend going some place else and not bothering there.
Super 8 stay was great on the basics of an overnight stay: clean, comfortable and staff attentive to needs. Fair price. Appears that a new owner is trying to revive a neglected facility.
The rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, overall a great budget hotel.
Nice place to stay very close to Catoctin and Cunningham falls.
Warning: If you read a review on this website indicating that the Super 8 in Thurmont, Maryland is an acceptable place to stay, then the review is an embellishment by a friend of the owner, a chain smoker, or someone whose viewpoint on acceptable accommodations is not universally in the majority. This facility is an open ashtray! Owner is a bold-faced liar from a country of unknown origin. Lied about not having a no-smoking room available, yet inexplicably showed us another "non-smoking" room that miraculously appeared when we complained about the first. There is no "non-smoking" rooms at this hotel. Lied about considering a partial refund when advised his establishment was unacceptable. Lied about calling me back in "two hours". Bedding, furnishings, carpeting, and decor have not changed since opened in 1992. The room we were given was filthy, with a recliner and ottoman permeated in dirt and cigarette smoke. There were grimy handprints on the light switch in the bathroom and the shower appeared to have been rinsed out but never scrubbed in weeks. The stairways in this place, which were carpeted, appeared to have not been vacuumed in weeks. Everywhere we looked there was nothing but dirt. Apparently, cleanliness is in the eye of the beholder, as the owner refused even a partial refund when advised that the condition of all his rooms was unacceptable. Bottom line: The owner of this establishment is a gutless purveyor of filth who does not respect military veterans and refuses to acknowledge that his hotel is below respectable standards. Unwilling to issue a partial refund, this SOB even charged tax! And he kept the payment because he was less than half full to begin with. If you read otherwise on these reviews, the owner apparently has a set of companions known and unknown that live substandard in their everyday lives! One star to substantiate existence and post a review, otherwise none at all!
Nice place with clean rooms and kind staff. The place is also surprisingly quiet, considering it's located right next to a truck stop.
