Great location in the National Wildlife Refuge, perfect for camping base and paddling the Okefenokee, or hiking or road riding. And it's remote enough for a dark sky designation. There are a couple trails for hiking and biking, nothing of any length or challenge. And lots of deer!

Several parks in Georgia are named after people, and most of those folks are either military leaders or legislators. Stephen Foster got a state park named after him by simply writing a popular song in 1851 that uses the river of the state park in its title and lyrics. From what I read he just picked a random river in the Southeast that had a nice “poetic” name and then wrote “Way Down on the Swanee Ribber.”
The state park resides in the swamps of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Suwanee River cuts through it. We stopped by on our way back from Florida, had a picnic, toured the museum, and hiked the nature trail. If we visit again I’d like to rent one of the canoes or boats from their marina and follow some of the canoe trails.response / report this review -

This is absolutely one of my favorite state parks I've been to. You are far enough out into the swamp that there are no street lights around, so it is the best place for star watching I've found in the state of Georgia. I've never gone without seeing several alligators and crains, and the Spanish moss all over the Cyprus trees is gorgeous. Definitely go if get a chance.

Unique park. Swamp just doesn't begin to describe how cool it is to take a boat trip and see alligators starting back at you. Well organized. Great campsites.

Fabulous scenery! They have boat tours but we didn't get there in time for one of them. WOW! The hiking trail we went on was awesome. It's a great way to see a part of the famous Okefenokee Swamp! It was mostly a boardwalk trail. Didn't see any gators but lots if other wildlife, especially spiders! Big ones! Very neat experience!

Great place to visit if you want to take a boat tour of the Okefenokee Swamp and photograph gators. Not a fan of the nature trail - too short.

The night sky full of stars was amazing. Saw the milky way. The guided boating tour on the water was great. Rangers were great and helpful. Will come back for camping and longer stay

My family's favorite place to be any time of the year!They have 9 cabins,we have always tried to go at least twice a year since I was a small child.It's very quiet and peaceful.No cell phones because there are no signals.

Excellent place for getting away from it all. Getting out on the water in a canoe or john boat is a fantastic experience. The State Park staff are friendly and the campground is excellent. Not a campground for 50 foot trailers.

This was our first time visiting Stephen C Foster and it will not be our last! We have visited the other sides of the Okefenokee before, but SCF's campgrounds and access to the swamp are a good combination. The camping area could be defined and divided better when compared to other state parks. But we will still return. Recommend arriving early to puck your sight. This park has the best star gazing on the East Coast. Plan your trip around the lunar phases and watch the website for night paddles and star gazing events.
