The SINFI table got a shout-out from the Advance--second photo down. M&K Spanish Food, Grace Kelli Cupcakes, Chef Louis Marfoglio, and Cargo Cafe are all mentioned by name. There's also a picture of Diane Painter Velletri handing out Grace Kelli Cupcakes about halfway down the article.

Last week's St. George Day was fun for everyone - artisans, musicians, poets, community orgs, neighbors and friends. We distributed food tastings donated by these restaurants and grocers: Big Time Produce, Leo's Deli, Lebanese Eatery, Lanka Grocery, ShopRite, Grace Kelli Cupcakes, Dominican Food Restaurant, Cargo Café/Burrito Bar, M&K Spanish Restaurant, Chef Louis Catering. Thank you! #stgeorgedaystatenisland #cityharvest #statenislandneighborhoodfoodinitiative #statenislandfamilyfun #wheresieats @cargocafesi @gracekellicupcakes #stgeorgestatenisland #youarewhatyoueat #leosdeli #lebaneseeatery

"'[G]rocery stores only succeed when they really try to make the world a better place through food. In his view, Whole Foods wasn’t doing enough to address its notoriously high prices — opening itself up to be undercut by cheaper competition, and missing a kind of ethical opportunity to make better food available to more people.

“'When,” Kelley remembers asking, 'did you start to mistake opulence for success?'”.

“'We were always asking a different question: What is the problem you’re trying to solve through food?” Kelley says. “It’s not just a refueling exercise — instead, what is the social, emotional issue that food is solving for us? We started trying to work that into grocery.'"

Our best corner stores address that, too.

Dr. Ginny Mantello, health director for the SI Borough President's office, and Bianca Palumbo, RD, presented information about sugar-sweetened beverages yesterday at SI Technical High School. They were invited by Zhixing Chen, Milena Olkhovetsky, and Ayman Rddad, three students who are coordinating a really amazing "nutrition for high schoolers" research and education program.
