Our foundation is in memory of Spencer Hockaday. Spencer died in March 2011 as the
result of a weather related traffic accident. He was 17 and a Senior at Spotsylvania High School
where he was well known and loved. He was a mentor to incoming freshman, a member of
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, captain of the baseball team. He also had a great love of basketball
and enjoyed a championship year in 2011 with his Parks & Rec team, the Wizards.
He also worked as a coach and umpire with Spotsylvania Parks & Recreation, where he grew up playing baseball.
His love of children was well known and he enjoyed his job in activities at American Famlly Fitness where he was well loved.
He was genuine and full of love - love for life and love for others. Whether he knew you or not, his smile and personality could
engage you so deeply that the one meeting left a lasting impression. It was inspiring to know
a young man of 17 could love like that and leave such an impact on thousands of lives in the short time
he was with us.
