The Tucson VA will begin a large roadway and parking lot re-surfacing project that is scheduled to be completed in several phases. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2019. During the re-surfacing project various parking lots and roadways within the Tucson VA will be closed and traffic will be rerouted.

The first phase of the re-surfacing project will start with the closure of Parking Lot D on August 21, which is north of the Arizona State Veteran Home and will aff...ect parking for building’s 57 and 30. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed around August 31.

Phase 2 will involve resurfacing the Air Force Loop and is scheduled to begin around September 4 and is expected to be completed approximately September 13, which will impact building 95, our inpatient mental health domiciliary. There will be a temporary route to building 95 during phase 2 of the road project.

During phase one of the project, construction crews will create a temporary parking area east of building 95 to be used for any overflow parking during the long-term road re-surfacing project.

We want to remind Veterans and staff to be cautions around construction vehicles and also allow for extra time when coming to the Tucson VA for appointments as parking lots and roadways will be impacted during the project.

We will be providing updates to the re-surfacing project on our social media platforms and our public web page.

Attention Veterans, there will be some traffic changes near the Tucson VA medical center, so please be mindful when passing through construction zones and also allow extra time when coming to the hospital for your appointments

Valley Rd at state route 86 and Ajo Way will be closed for five days starting Monday, August 6. The closure is needed so crews can begin storm sewer work in the area which is part of the second phase of the Interstate 19 and Ajo Way traffic. During ...the closure, traffic will detour to Laporte Lane and Pandora Avenue

Patients and staff that travel that area may encounter intermittent shoulder closures on Ajo Way as work begins between I-19 and Holiday Isle.

On the south side of Ajo Way, crews will replace utilities so the roadway can be expanded and reconstructed. Curb and gutter removal is also planned for the north side of Ajo Way, where the roadway will be shifted slightly to the north once reconstruction begins on the south side. Access to businesses along Ajo Way will be maintained throughout construction. Work is expected to continue through early 2020

There will be no limitation for Emergency Service access throughout the project.

For more information on the project, visit Arizona Department of Transpiration (ADOT) Interstate 19 project update web page.

On Friday night, the Tucson VA hosted its first ever movie night. We had Veterans, staff and family members enjoy a showing of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Everyone enjoyed a barbecue, popcorn, and other refreshments during the showing.

Our first movie night would not have been a huge success without the help of our volunteers! Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who made it out to our movie night, keep an eye out on our Facebook page for another movie night at the Tucson VA in the near future.

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System would like to post some friendly reminders about pedestrian safety in the workplace.

Always: 1. Remember that you may not be visible to drivers. 2. Stick to designated walkways and crossing points.... 3. Remember that different vehicles have different stopping distances.

Dont: 1. Enter "No Pedestrians" or "Vehicle Only" areas. 2. Walk beside a moving vehicle. 3. Approach a moving vehicle. Wait until the driver acknowledges your presence. 4. Walk behind a reversing vehicle. Vehicles have blind spots.

    Have a safe weekend!
