We hiked up to the falls, which are beautiful. This is definitely a strenuous hike, especially on the front side of the loop going up to the falls. Its a combination of clambering a rocky trail and climbing steep staired sections. Its a very nice hike, but not for the faint of heart

We had an amazing hike out here. This is truly a beautiful place to visit. As large and as many trails as there are, it doesn't seem to be over crowded by any means
The welcome center is staffed with helpful and informative people.
Everything was clean, well marked, and obvious.

Beautiful place! Amazing access to all of the park on pretty well maintained trails. Wish I could have been there to visit instead of helping with the fire!

I love coming to south mountains for the day from Hickory. Very well maintained trails and such beautiful hikes! I always bring my pup and he’s exhausted after. Definitely worth the trip!

Didn't climb myself but enjoyed watching all the more energetic people coming with huge backpacks, walking sticks and often two dogs. I thought the dogs would prefer being home.

We love this campground. It is difficult to get reservations but it is a beautiful place. It only has two sites for electric hook up only, no water and no sewer. The don't have a dumpsite either.
It has several well marked trails for hiking. One from the campground goes right to some beautiful waterfalls.
It is a drive back to the grocery store so stock up before you head out.
It has the most beautiful bath house I have ever seen.
It is a true family campground and like all NC State campgrounds there is no alcohol allowed.

Nice hiking trails, very neat multi layer waterfalls, and we'll cared for. They need more parking areas though. Get there early.

Beautiful place with a nice waterfall. The hike to the falls is 1 mile and is moderately steep at the end. Bring water!! Limited amenities at the visitors center. There is camping available but I am not sure of the pricing. The entrance to the hikes are free though.

Love coming here to walk the trails. My kids love to play in the water. Lots of fun for the whole family. Nice and peaceful. It can get crowded on the weekends and holidays. We came in the afternoon which helped because the crowd had thinned about a bit. Still didn't feel like it was all that crowded when we came in the middle of the day on Good Friday when the parking lot of filled up. We love this place so much that we go here quite often. Also, they do have camping which we are looking into doing this fall.

Lots of trails and fresh air! Get out of Charlotte--less than a 90min drive. Then again, I love that there are so few people--so maybe I should tell you it is not worth going. I would like to keep this treasure a secret. Haha!

Awesome trails within a reasonable drive from Charlotte. All trails are maintained well and marked for easy following. I camped in the high falls backcountry sites too. Peaceful, equipped with fire ring and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The hikes are mostly moderate to strenuous- especially if you're backpacking. The info center has little convenience items for camping and they are helpful staff wise. Dog friendly area as well.

Plenty of hiking trails for those that enjoy hiking. You can fish, camp, bike and ride your horse. If you have bad knees I would take precaution hiking to the waterfall. There are stairs and rock you have to climb over. The restrooms are very clean.

Beautiful campground. Brand new bathrooms, lovely Creek running behind the campsites. 1.5 mi hike to the falls from the campground.
We came late in the evening, unsure if we would be able to camp since the office had closed via phone. The gates were open and we were able to find a ranger to check us in. (The gate times are on their website)response / report this review
