This is rated a hard hike and it is. It was recently re-opened in July 2017 due a forest fire. Because of this expect to see nothing but burnt trees, charcole and ashes in the dirt. However once you make it to the split in the trail, about at the 5 mile mark, that is when the green trees start up again.

My first suggestion is not use iPhone map to get to this place or you get lost for kinda 30 mins finding trails. The trail is an absolute amazing trail going through the jungle and getting to higher elevations, until you see the peak of mountain range. But, sadly, I don’t know for some reason maybe a fire or a huge thunder storm most of the trees at the beginning of the trail were burnt out and On mid Sep which we tried this trail the river was completely dried out too. Anyway, the whether despite of Riverside that we came from was chilling and lovely. The level of hiking is moderate and if you down to go to “dry lake” the round trip should be almost 12.5 miles.

Scenic dirt road. Very nice if short drive. Dont be fooled by signs claiming it is private property.
