Mixed. First we had reseeding for over a month and when Annie Oakley showed us to our table it was horrible. Middle of the room!!!!! Anniversary dinner stuffed in a crowded room? I honestly wanted to cry! My wonderful hubby said we would wait and she snubbed we could set in bar. What a cozy corner table? Yes. She the shoved the menu and told us we could do it ourselves!!!!
That’s when it turned our bar waitress was amazing patient informative and quick. We had homemade potato chips with incredible sauce, wedge salad, crab soup, hamburger and chicken pasta. Everything was hot, wonderful and served promptly! Thank u for turning a horrible experience into a wonderful one!!!

As I have always loved the food and visiting this establishment, I am sorrowful to say I am filled with the utmost disappointment. For the past 3 years, friends and I would gather for a traditional dinner. This year we all thought it'd be the same joyous occasion as it has been in previous years, but to our disappointment, we had to stressfully scramble to find a new place to dine, all due to the fact that we were a party of 21 and that their recent policy change was that no parties over the size of 14 were allowed, and parties over 6 had to pay on one check altogether. We were never informed about these new policies, and we made reservations a month prior to the dinner. They left us with three days to find a new location to hold our traditional dinner.

This inconvenience had impacted every single attendee at this dinner. People had to change work schedules and come in from afar to attend this dinner. It's a shame large groups of people such as for graduation dinners and such other events are denied due to possibility of party size. This is particularly sad due to the fact we are from Abingdon and they never made an attempt to rectify this situation. We shall not return for future dinners, unless establishment policy changes.

The Sister’s American Grill is a fabulous restaurant run like a mockery. For the past two years my social group has had a large group function no problem at this location but this year was a joke. We reserved a 15 person group one month prior to December 16th and changed it to 21 shortly after with no problem. 3 days prior to our event however they decide to call us informing we have to reduce to a 14 person party and be all on the same check?! I myself went to the restaurant to ask why and if it was possible to do our individual checks to which they replied it wasn’t possible to do for something that large in any restaurant although I myself and several of my colleagues work or have worked in restaurants and know full and well it’s possible to split a check that size to which she replied it was (too long and time consuming, it would make the guests mad), I told her we ARE the guests and would be very understanding even if it took 30 minutes to split our checks since we planned to have a nice long evening together and wouldn’t mind to sit and talk. She told me the only thing she could do is split our check into 21 EVEN checks so that everyone would pay the same price which is completely unfair for what if you plan to eat cheaper and someone plans to have the most extravagant supper and wine causing your check to SKYROCKET immensely despite only ordering a smaller entree or a soup. I had left the restaurant for a couple minutes to talk to my friend who organized our events at his restaraunt and upon returning I overheard that a couple who had reserved seats would still have to wait 45 minutes because they gave their seats up EVEN THOUGH that couple was exactly on time, there should have been no reason for that couple not to have had their seats held for them. Needless to say I canceled this embarrassing venue and booked us elsewhere. The google guide on this venue says “great for groups”, if you would like to eat with a group in Abingdon, Virginia I would suggest you eat at Rain located eastward on Main Street below Frost Funeral Home or the Peppermill.

Sister's American Grill has always been very accommodating to my large functions and groups we bring in yearly. The food is prepared masterfully and precisely, there is attention to detail and flavour.

They have a great selection of up-scale American cuisine and the staff is professional. A personal favorite of mine in town.

    EDIT December 15, 2017:

It is with great displeasure that I have to take back my tremendous words of praise and satisfaction with Sisters American Grill. For the last few years I have been hosting Annual Christmas dinner parties at Sisters with attendances ranging from 15-20. Making reservations for another great yearly dinner in November, one month prior to our big event should’ve been great notice to the staff and management who once were understanding and “accommodating” as I once experienced. I received a phone call three days before asking to confirm my reservation and to accept the “new policies” that meant no parties over 14 people as well as forcing everyone to be on one check (which would have been ridiculous for 20+ to combine into one check).

I was caught off guard when I received this phone call and our entire plan was placed in chaos. The management had failed to notify us of the new policy changes that occurred AFTER our reservation had been made. Sadly, according to front desk Staff who spoke with us in person, the wait staff at Sisters cannot handle splitting up checks into individual ones as it would pose an issue to their operational ability..

We have never had a problem before and all of a sudden the rug has been pulled out from under us and 20+ guests who have made plans a month ahead of time to enjoy a dinner experience at The Martha. I even told management that we could Pre order food, make lists, and do everything we could to facilitate the serving process as well as checking out. We were offered a lousy “solution” to pay individual checks for the same price, but that would be imposing on our guests because different people will be ordering different foods. It is a mess!

Fortunately, a better and more accommodating restaurant in town will be saving our event who can handle large groups of people with no problems at all.

It’s especially sad because I wrote a heartfelt appreciation letter last year to the entire staff and management of Sisters for being extremely accommodating and helpful to us all, I feel as if it was thrown into our faces. Additionally, As a Local Guide for Google, my picture bragging about the delicious steak I had received 40,000+ views and now I’m going to have to remove it. Sad.
I’m not sure if management has changed, but after cancelling our pointless reservation we will not be back and advise large groups to steer clear as well.

We had really high hopes for this place since the hotel is beautiful and the other reviews have been great, but we had a series of poor experiences here that have really muddied our view of this restaurant. We stayed at the Martha to celebrate our anniversary and chose the Sister's for dinner. We had reservations and were seated promptly. That's where the good service ended. Our waitress was slow to take our drink order and rarely if ever checked on us. Bread didn't arrive for another 30 minutes and after an hour I had to talk to the manager about our food not coming out. She got it out right away but it was luke warm at best. We were so hungry by that point we ate it. She comped us a free dessert, but the meal and experience were not worth the $100 that we spent. The following morning breakfast was no better. We had to wait to be seated, not because there weren't enough tables, but because there appeared to be no one busing them. Once again the waitress was slow to our table. The breakfast wasn't bad, but the service leaves something to be desired. This morning the breakfast and the service were more on par with what we were expecting. I was overall disappointed.

We were very blessed this evening. After entering the restaurant that “everyone” said to go to and finding that they had a 1.5 hour wait, we found this gem. We are not guests at the hotel and the gentleman that answered my call assured me that even though they were booked, he could fit us in. Sure enough, after a few sips of our cocktail, he took us to our table. Not only is the restaurant classy and historical, but the service and food are excellent. We are so grateful to the folks that made our evening so pleasant. You must visit when you are in Abington!!

This was my first visit to the Sisters at the Martha, my family and I made reservations for Christmas Eve dinner. This has to be the absolute best meal I've ever had! I got the Pork Osso Bucco it came with collard greens and baked beans. The pork was so tender the baked beans had incredible flavor and the collard greens were incredible. Along with excellent food the service was AMAZING! Our waitress Kat was so helpful and attentive! I highly recommend this restaurant!
