Shelton's Fire Department provides protection from fire and the enforcement of all laws pertaining to fire prevention and safety to over 40,000 residents a day. Manned by 225 volunteers, the department is made up of four companies operating from four stations located throughout the community: Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company No. 1,
Huntington Fire Company No. 3, Pine Rock Park Company No. 4, and White Hills Fire Company No. 5
Currently, the fire department utilizes 25 pieces of fire-fighting equipment. All vehicles are radio-equipped as part of the mutual assistance program covering Shelton and surrounding cities.
The fire department is administered by a Board of Fire Commissioners consisting of a chairman appointed by the Mayor and four Commissioners, elected by each Company. Supervision of the operations of the Department is entrusted to Fire Chief Fran Jones and four Assistant Chiefs one from each fire company.
The Shelton Fire Department is also made up of the Fire Marshalls office that provides inspection and fire prevention services. The Fire Marshall and his deputies are entrusted with the investigation of all fires and the issuing of all permits dealing with explosives and burning.
Shelton is fortunate to have a volunteer fire department that provides professional services for the city at a very low cost to our residents. We enjoy a statewide reputation as a professional and progressive department.
