Love the ferry forest area
There is a Fairy Forest next to the Shady Dell campground that is a fun kids day trip. It is a real hidden gem.
At mile marker 17 there is a small dirt parking area.
Take the path from there through the campground and across the creek. The creek is generally dry in the summer but, early spring and late summer there are a few inches of water rocks/logs to walk over it then.
And once you cross the creek you're there.
Folks over the years have made Fairy Rings and Fairy Villages throughout the area. And, they've even laid out rock paths through the forest so you can wind your wait through all the creations there are hundreds of them ranging from full little villages with houses with fenced gardens and little people to fairy rings made up of shiny stones to creations made of painted rocks or rocks with kids names on them.
You welcome to create your own addition to this magical area. So bring some fun fairy houses, garlands, shiny stone, or other fun stuff to put out. Or, bring some bright paint to paint some rocks to border your area or write the kids names on the rocks around their fairy ring. Let your imagination run wild.
Our grandkids painted and decorated bird houses that we hung in the trees for the fairies to live in. They had a great time walking through the forest looking at all the things that people had put out. We brought a picnic and spent over 3 hours there kids didn't want to leave at the end.
So, definitely put this on your agenda for a fun day out!!!
Clean outhouses potable water in the campground beautiful place
If you have kids (or you're still a kid at heart) be sure to explore the fairy land trail near the middle of the campground.
Perfectly decent camping ground in the Unitas. Be careful when sleeping in tents with others!
