Best place to go for a great experience of the hertel night life! Awesome bartenders and atmosphere!
Shadow Lounge was unique to say the least. Unique in that the scent of the host of the night was distinctive enough from a few feet away - he may as well have been smoking indoors. The restaurant, while dark and not too chic looking, was overrun with a crowd of divorcees, rhinestone jeans, bikers, "bikers," leather-daddies and very loud underage girls that loved the flash on their phones. A lot. Our server, nicknamed (by the same host) as 'Sprockets,' was slow with the drinks, forgetful with the orders and all around below pace the whole night.
Let's start with the food: they brought us this "pumpkin-cream-butter-infusion" that was whipped up in probably mid-October when it was appropriate to pumpkin everything - it was oily, bland and greasy. Tasted like crisco with pumpkin pie filling. I ordered the beef. It was less than mediocre and easily less than 8oz as advertised. Maybe they weigh it before they cook it (possibly boiled?). It was served on a plate ofstuff. Some vegetables, mashed potatoes and about half a gallon of the starchiest, thickest gravy. The vegetables were either still thawing, warm or piping hot. I finished the beef and called it a night. My girlfriend ordered the beer-battered fish fry. Still soaking wet from the grease and batter, it was thrown onto a bed of French fries and cabbage (their version of coleslaw) - it would've been easier to drink it than to eat it.
The waitress never approached us other than to take the order and pick up the check, we were constantly asked if something was wrong by some guy with a thin goatee (maybe the owner, maybe not), the lighting didn't let you know what you were eating half the time and the customers were drunk before 9PM and yelling. What more can I say?
excellent food- try the old bay seasoned wings as an appetizer!
The interior is dark and modern, with regular tables and lounge couches. All the food is excellent but I wouldn't recommend it for a hot, hearty meal - they do have daily entrees, but they're expensive ($25) and there are only 2 or 3. They're best for their martinis (a bit diluted but delicious) and AMAZING fondue, which is so hard to find in Buffalo. Sweet and savory, and pretty decent portions, especially with the chocolate one. Their appetizers are great as well and those prices are reasonable. On weekends they have live music, but know that it's LOUD, so probably not best for a first date. Otherwise, it's very intimate and a unique lounge/martini scene for the city.
